The Middle School Minute - Tips for Scholar Success
Retaining Knowledge
It can be challenging for a scholar to remember what they have learned. Here are some habits that can promote the retention of knowledge.
- Establish an understanding of the material. Ask your scholar to explain the material to you. If your scholar is having difficulty in a specific area you may need to find alternative ways to surround and engage your scholar with the topic.
- Have your scholar review essential information prior to starting homework. Encourage your scholar to read through their notes before tackling the homework for each subject.
- Make learning fun at home using tools such as music and visualization ( a mental picture) to help associate material.
- Please set aside time for studying (reviewing notes and engaging in the material) outside of homework time. This will help build the pursuit of curiosity and lifelong learning.

Health Office Reminders
As it is Cold & Flu Season, we are seeing lots of scholar with coughs, sore throat, congestion and fatigue. There are a few things we can do to help our scholars stay healthy:
- Remind your scholar to cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing.
- Have your scholar wash their hands frequently with soap and warm water.
- IF YOUR SCHOLAR IS SICK WITH A FEVER, KEEP THEM HOME TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF ILLNESS TO OTHERS
- YOUR SCHOLAR SHOULD BE NATURALLY FEVER-FREE (TEMP BELOW 100 DEGREES) WITHOUT THE AID OF MEDICATIONS FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL. THIS IS SCHOOL POLICY.
If your scholar had cold or flu symptoms, please do not give fever reduces to minimize symptoms. When the medicine wears off, the fever will return, and they will have exposed classmates and teachers to their illness. When your child has a fever, they are at a higher risk of other illnesses or viral infections. There are many reasons to keep a sick scholar at home.
If your child does come down with COVID, CDC and AZDHS policy is to stay home for 5 days from the first symptoms or positive COVID test, whichever comes first. Please contact the Health Office when a scholar does come down with COVID to answer any questions you may have and help figure out what day to return to school.
