May the Fourth at McWane!

The Sci-fi costuming event of the year has returned to McWane and will be better than ever! Come join us and our special guests, Alabama’s Legion of the 501^st costuming group and experience your own science fiction adventure of the day. There will be plenty of sci-fi based programming as well as photo opportunities with some of your favorite heroes and villains from another galaxy. We encourage all families to dress as your favorite sci-fi character and indulge in an experience at McWane like no other!

You Build It! Returns

You Build It! will return to the 3^rd floor of the McWane Adventure Halls beginning Saturday, May 25, 2024, and will once again focus on all things STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math). The exhibit will be 5,000 square feet of immersive STEAM experiences that will have three different areas:

·Lego Bricks

·Rigamajigs

·KEVA Planks

Themed like a construction Zone, You Build It! will be designed to spark imagination, creativity, innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving. Key exhibit features will include:

·Workshops

·Build Tables

·Design Challenges

·Free-build Areas

May in the IMAX Dome Theater

In McWane’s IMAX Dome Theater with laser technology, visitors are not just movie spectators, they are a part of the cinematic adventure happening on screen. This May McWane Science Center has movies for the whole family—educational documentaries and feature length films.

Asian/Pacific American Month

The month of May is observed as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. Join McWane all month as we highlight these history makers!

Celebrate Astronomy Week @ McWane

Join us in May as we look to the stars! Astronomy week is filled with innovative and unique ways to view the planets and stars. Through hands-on learning and programming, it’s sure to be a time out of this world!

Summer Camp Registration is OPEN @ McWane.org



Half-Day Camp: 4K–Kindergarten

(Campers must be registered in the grade they will be in September 2024):

In one week of camp, young scientists will travel into outer space, explore the oceans, or construct towers and bridges.

Camp fees are $180 per week, and members receive a 15% discount. Membership must be active on the date of the camp to receive a membership discount. 

All fees are due at the time of registration.

Full-Day Camp: Grades 1–7

(Campers must be registered in the grade they will be in September 2024):

From robots to the science of sports, and Legos to Minecraft, there’s something for everyone at McWane summer camps.

Camp fees are $345 per week, and members receive a 15% discount. Membership must be active on the date of the camp to receive a membership discount. 

All fees are due at the time of registration.
