Dear Parents,

As we are nearing the end of this first semester, we want to tell you how much we are enjoying having your children as students at Springwood School. It seems hardly possible that it is time to start preparing for mid-term exams, beginning December 13. Students and faculty alike are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season.

In this newsletter, I am excited to share information with you about our Springwood International House

Parents. I am sure your students regularly talk about Ms. Lynn Clark, who loves and nurtures your children every day! Ms. Lynn was born in Lanett and has spent most of her life in this community. She has a Master’s in Education degree and has taught many, many local students through the years as well

as, spent one year teaching in Managua, Nicaragua about 10 years ago.

Currently she is the ESL teacher at Lanett Jr. High and High School during the day and a Springwood International House Parent in the evenings and weekends. Ms. Lynn has been a blessing to the international residential program at Springwood this year and the students love and respect her.

You have likely heard the names, Brian and Tiffany Clark from your children too. Brian is Ms. Lynn’s brother, and he and his wife, Tiffany, have been volunteers with our international students this year. We are happy to announce that as of today, they have accepted the positions of International House

Parents! We are appreciative for their love and support of the international students and so excited to have them join our international staff. Heidi and Joel Buckhout’s tenure as House Parents ended today and we wish them the best and they move on to other endeavors.

Brian and Tiffany Clark were also born and raised in Lanett. They have been married 22 years and have two children, Corbin and Gracie. Their son, Corbin, is in the 9th grade at Springwood and is currently involved in basketball, soccer, and theater at the school. Their daughter, Gracie, is 3 years old and

already looking forward to becoming a Springwood Wildcat!

Tiffany is a School Counselor at Long Cane Middle School in Lagrange, GA where she has worked the past 18 years. For the past 10 years, Brian and Tiffany have also been the local business owners of "Jump for Joy Family Fun Center". Brian and Tiffany have been fulfilling their pastoral duties at Next Ministries Worship Center in Lanett for the past 11 years and they both have a passion for working with youth and families.

Brian and Tiffany, as well as their extended family members have previously hosted international students in their homes. Now they are excited about being able to work with students from many nations and help each one of them grow intellectually, physically, and spiritually as they learn more about the English language and American culture in the residential setting at Springwood School.

I wish you all a joyous holiday season.

Warmest regards,

Ann Hixon

South Korean Immersion Experience

For two weeks in October, Springwood hosted 5 South Korean students as they got a taste of the American school system. The boys took classes at Springwood School and participated in a soccer training program at a nearby facility. After leaving, all 5 students said they would like to apply to Springwood for high school!

Fall Activities

Springwood School is ideally located near several parks and lakes which allow our students to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature that surrounds them.

Happy Halloween!

Trip to Germany

Springwood's International Director, Ann Hixon and Head of School, Kim Baylis took a week-long trip to Berlin, Wernigerode and Frankfurt Germany the first week in November. They attended an International Conference in Berlin to develop new connections and strengthen valuable current partnerships for our international student program, they also visited former students in Berlin, toured the Grovemuhle School in Veckenstedt and traveled to Frankfort for a day before returning.

Community Service

Students participated in a day of community service at Callaway Gardens to help the resort prepare for their annual Christmas celebration, "Fantasy in Lights". Students decorated trees, painted, and set up outdoor lights while there.

Wildcat Football Finishes strong

Congratulations to the Springwood Wildcats on their great football season! The Wildcats finished the season as region champions and second in the state in the 8 man football league. Springwood International students Francesco Lim, a senior from South Korea, and Linus Wanninger, a sophomore from Germany, were members of this historic team. Go Wildcats!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Over Thanksgiving Break, students had a chance to experience American holiday food-- some of the girls baked pies and everyone enjoyed traditional Thanksgiving Day foods. Students also participated in fun activities during the week break from school including bowling, skating, Holiday Fantasy in Lights and a local Christmas Festival "Rocking Fest".
