Recent Crime in Lost Creek

Update from December 15th Limited District Meeting

The Lost Creek Limited District Board of Directors continues to investigate its options for addressing recent criminal activity within Lost Creek and for promoting a safe community for District constituents. At its regular monthly meeting held on December 15th, the Board approved extending the District's agreement with the Travis County Sheriff's Office for patrols by off-duty deputies through December 2023. The Board also approved funding for additional overnight sheriff patrols through the end of this year and into the new year.

Chuck McCormick, the president-elect of the LCNA, attended the meeting. Mr. McCormick reported that the Neighborhood Association is interested in forming a working group with the District to maximize the effectiveness of the efforts undertaken by both entities, leveraging the respective authority and resources of each.

The District is also considering the option of entering into an interlocal agreement with Travis County and the Precinct 3 Constable's Office for additional patrols within the District, including patrols focused on speed mitigation. The Board of Directors is investigating the cost and tax implications of entering into such an agreement.

All crimes should continue to be reported to the Austin Police Department either by calling 911 for emergencies, 311 for non-emergencies, or by using the city’s online crime reporting system. Feedback from both APD and our off-duty liaison is that reporting incidents to APD remains the best way to get responses and action from law enforcement.

Residents are also encouraged to take preventative measures to reduce opportunities for criminals such as:

  • Ensuring your cars and residence are locked
  • Removing all valuables from your car
  • Keeping your garage door closed and locked
  • Utilizing a Faraday bag or box to prevent relay theft
  • Retrieving package deliveries promptly

The Board will continue to discuss long-term solutions to the issue of safety and security and welcomes feedback on this topic or other pertinent neighborhood issues via email and during its board meetings, including in the upcoming regular board meeting on January 17th at 6:30 p.m
