Thank you to Or Chadash for Supporting the

Open Cupboard Food Pantry!

Thank you to our Or Chadash community for supporting our effort to help out the Open Cupboard Food Pantry after a devastating fire destroyed its Clinton location. Our youth group, OCTY, collected pasta boxes (used as groggers) and other non-perishable food items at the Purim Carnival; there were several boxes full of food! And we had donations of ShopRite scrip cards amounting to $325! Both the food and the ShopRite gift cards were dropped off at the High Bridge Reformed Church, the temporary home for Open Cupboard donations until it finds a more long-term temporary location in the Wellness Center in Clinton next month.

THANK YOU for this mitzvah of helping out!

Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Or Chadash is a certifying organization of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award! The PVSA recognizes U.S. citizens who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period. The awards are offered in multiple levels and include bronze, silver, and gold, based on the number of service hours completed and the age of the volunteer. All service must be unpaid, volunteer, and take place within the one year period specified below. Please visit www.presidentialserviceawars.gov for additional information about the program.

PLEASE NOTE: The most recent qualifying period runs from March 1, 2023 - February 29, 2024. Required documentation of hours will need to be submitted to Cindy Stoter at chstoter@comcast.net for approval BEFORE advisor signatures are obtained. Please reach out to Cindy, the OC PVSA Coordinator and Mrs. Berg (cberg3@comcast.net), the OCTY Advisor, to let us know that you will be submitting service hours for this award so we can discuss what hours qualify and how to document these hours properly.

Family Promise

Family Promise is ready to open their new permanent home, The Promise Center, in Flemington -they are just waiting on the state’s final inspection!  The current plan is that our congregation would go back to preparing and delivering hot, cooked meals, during set weeks when we partner with another congregation to ensure full coverage of the entire week. The families will have access to a kitchenette where they can warm food up, but there is no stove or oven for cooking.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming 2024 dates at the Promise Center: Homemade meals needed!

  • July 28 – August 4
  • November 3 – 9
  • November 10 – 16
  • December 22 – 29

Though this is in the future, we will begin planning now to ensure that we can have plenty of volunteers to bring nutritious meals for our families. Salads, main meals, sides, breads, even desserts are welcome! The idea is to share the work, so one volunteer need not provide the entire meal. We will find out if the delivery should be in disposable containers, or if dishes will be washed and available for return. Delivery would need to occur directly to the Promise Center, unless otherwise agreed upon.

A Signup Genius will be sent out to our whole congregation approximately 2-3 weeks in advance, as we will find out of any dietary restrictions or needs, as well as the number of people. To get some advance notice of interest, if you have any preliminary interest in helping out, please email Alexa Parliyan at parliyan@comcast.net.

Family Promise will let us know if there are other volunteering opportunities as they open and develop an understanding of the needs. As always, gas and grocery cards are always welcome (See: Scrip program! for a win-win).

Thank You Or Chadash!

We just received the shlach manot bag from the congregation. Please use the next blast to the membership to express our thanks for once again thinking of us. We appreciate the attention and wish everyone happy springtime holidays.

Help shape the future of Or Chadash!

OC Board of Trustees Has Two Openings

We need you! We need your thoughts, your creativity and your insights. We need you to be a part of our group of committed people, dedicated to improving Or Chadash.

Board members manage the general operations of the synagogue and ensure that the spiritual, educational, financial and other needs of the congregation are being met. It is here that you can truly help to shape the future of Or Chadash. (Our meetings are on Zoom and held every 4-5 weeks.)

If you are interested in supporting our community and making a difference at Or Chadash, please reach out to either Dan Freedman (president@orchadash-nj.org) or Ross Weinick ( rweinick@orchadash-nj.org).
