Science Will Always Be Here

The power of science is real. Last year, more than any other year, has shown us that science is more important than ever.

We’ve created a video to help spread this message, and after you watch it, if it hits home, join our campaign by sharing the video on your social media channels.

Coming up at the Institute of Science...

Thursday, April 8 | 7:30pm: Learn all about one of our planet’s most complex and fascinating ecosystems: Coral reefs. We’ll explore the natural history of these living creatures, composition, and what may be contributing to their decline across the world.

Saturday, April 10 | 9:00am: Is it really the ocean you hear inside a shell? Grab your shells, or pick some up at the Institute (quantities are limited), and learn about this and all things shells, including shapes, textures, and what lived inside during this interactive session. Recommended for ages PK-2nd grade.

July 5 - August 20, 2021 | Students entering grades K-4 in fall 2021

Tackle activities, experiments, and investigations as campers become ecologists, geologists, physicists, and more during our in-person camps. Or join us for our virtual camps, The Science of Michigan or Science Goes to the Movies, where we’ll build models of mighty bridges, learn how to identify plants native to Michigan, uncover why popcorn pops, demystify movie magic, and so much more.

Celestial events to watch for this month

April 11: NEW MOON - The Moon will be located on the same side of Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This is a perfect time to catch a glimpse of faint objects like galaxies and star clusters since there will be no moonlight to obstruct your view.

April 22: LYRID METEOR SHOWER - This annual meteor shower is active from April 16th to the 25th, peaking in the predawn hours on Thursday, April 22.

April 26: FULL MOON - Make sure you go outside the night of Monday, April 26 to catch the full Pink Moon, which is the first supermoon of 2021. It will be visible after sunset and will reach peak illumination 11:33pm.
