Lunch-N-Learn

Rainwater Harvesting

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners of Washington County are pleased to present the Spring 2023 “Lunch-N-Learn” series to be hosted on the first Wednesday of each month in April & May. The series boasts topics related horticulture with the homeowner and backyard gardener in mind! Speakers are experts in their fields and practical gardeners with great tips and information for everyone. 

 

Program registration will begin at 11:50am with the program beginning at 12:05pm and concluding at 12:55pm. At the conclusion of each session the speaker and our Washington County Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.

 

The Lunch-N-Learn Sessions will be held at the Washington County Expo Event Center, 1305 E. Blue Bell Road in Brenham. All Master Gardener Lunch-N-Learn programs are free to the public and you are welcome to bring your own lunch and drink.

Bacterial Source Tracking

Austin County


Join us for a free dinner and an informational lecture by Dr. Terry Gentry on the purpose, application, and potential value of bacterial source tracking (BST) to the Mill Creek Watershed. BST is a tool that can be used to evaluate the origin of bacteria in bodies of water. A brief update on the Mill Creek Watershed Protection Plan will also be provided, including water quality monitoring data and an introduction to the new watershed coordinator.

Private Applicator Training

Washington County


If you plan on using a state limited use or state restricted use pesticide, such as Grazon P+D, 2 4-D, Weedmaster, etc., and need a license, the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will be sponsoring a Private Applicator Training on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Washington County Extension Office Conference Room, 1305 E Blue Bell Road, Brenham.  Books and study materials for the course need to be purchased ahead of time for $50.00 at the Extension Office.  A registration fee of $10.00 will be charged for the training.  The registration fee will include the training and additional study materials. The training will begin at 8:30am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm. Please reserve your spot for the training as soon as possible; seating is limited.

36th Annual Dr. O.D. Butler Forage Field Day (CEUs)

Robertson County


This year’s O.D. Butler Field Day will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, this will be an in-person event. 


This year’s field day will address many concerns over high input costs and feature excellent tour stops and vendor presentations.


The field day will be held at the Camp Cooley division of Circle X Ranch. The GPS location of the ranch is 4297 Camp Cooley Ranch Rd, Franklin, TX 77856. 


Pre-registration & pre-payment is required. The Cost of the program registration will be $35.

Forage and Livestock Production (CEUs)

Fayette County


The goal of this session is to help landowners with the establishment and/or recover of pasture and hay meadows. Paired with the discussion on establishment and recovery the session will include soil fertility and weed control for long term sustainability and performance. Additionally, the session will evaluate options for overseeding pastures with winter forages and learn about the process and benefits. Lastly, we will discuss livestock production and cover some tips and tricks to help landowners create a more successful and sustainable management plan.

BMGA Kids Summer Kamp

Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties


The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners, in conjunction with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension team, are pleased to announce our 6th year of holding Kids’ Kamp in Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties. This kamp is designed to be educational but fun with the goal of igniting a passion in the youth of our area to the importance and enjoyment of gardening through unique experiences.

Snakes, whether we like them or fear them, are becoming more active this time of year and activity will increase as spring temperatures climb.


More encounters with snakes can lead to more bites for people and pets, but a basic understanding of their activity can reduce fears and prevent a trip to the hospital or vet.
