Hello families!

Great Hearts Northern Oaks Upper School students will be taking STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) this month. The full schedule is at the end of this email.

On a STAAR day, students will be assigned to a room to take their test for period 1 through period 3 (7:50 am through 11:40 am). The rest of the school day after the STAAR day will proceed as typical.

Students may bring into the STAAR room homework or something school-appropriate to read when they are finished with their test. Their materials may not relate to the test that is being taken that day (so no math homework on a day when they are taking the math STAAR). A literary book on a day they are taking the reading portion would be fine, but a grammar textbook would not. If you or your student are uncertain, feel free to bring two options so one can be left in the locker!

To help your students perform their best, please make sure they get a full night of sleep and eat a good breakfast before STAAR.
