Using rulers for quilting on a domestic machine opens a whole new world of possibilities on your quilting projects. We will use the basic rulers to explore the many ways that they can be used alone and together in quilt blocks, sashings and borders. Get personal attention and see many samples.

Monica's Notes & Tips & Tricks

1. Pencil pieces are a little long. Cut to 6.25" so that the "exterior panel (pg 4) turns out the right size.

2. When attaching E1 pieces (step 2 top of pg 4) make sure to go through the "X" on the pencil tip side. This way your pencil will look like it has a sharp tip :)

3. Use purple Thang or stilleto to help with pouch assembly (step 2 pg 6). The bulk going close to the zipper tabs can be a bit difficult for your machine.

4. Use a thin scrap to make a matching zipper pull or get one of the cute moda ones.

Michelle's Notes:

I loved making this bag and wish I had had more time to embroidery a name in the middle of the pencil. Some things to note:

The pattern assumes you have basic bag making knowledge. She references a video in her blog post so if you need extra help that may be a good resource.
Measure as you go. I love that she provides the sizes at each step so that you can measure and make sure all it should be.
Sooooo....I lost the point of my pencil. I'm not the best at flying geese. This would be a good opportunity to pull out one of those flying geese rulers when trimming. Or do what Monica said :)
Charli suggested I quilt the like someone had drawn on the fabric and I loved the idea. My quilting starts at the point of the pencil and goes all the way around the bag.

It was a fun quick project! And perfect for back to school!
