After a three-year hiatus, the Gloucester Education Foundation and Gloucester Public Schools are thrilled to relaunch the Gloucester Student Arts Festival, a daylong celebration of the arts in the Gloucester Public Schools! The festival will feature:


Displays of Student Work from grades PreK-12 at City Hall, the Cape Ann Museum, and MAGMA


Art-Making activities: print-making, cyanotypes, kite-making, Gloucester 400+ poetry project, Dance through the Decades with MAGMA, and more!


Performances: the Grades 4+5, O’Maley and GHS bands; elementary, O’Maley and GHS theater; 3rd grade recorders; Gloucester PreK Flash Mob; spoken word, poetry and more!


Food Trucks: Butter Ur Biscuit, Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafe, Five Star Phresh Phoods, Castaways Cafe, Rhea Pizzeria Napoletana, and more!

Percy MacKaye’s 1922 poem, Dogtown Common, is a beloved document of Gloucester lore. It tells the story of two legendary figures, Tammy Younger and her niece Judy Rhines, shunned for practicing witchcraft. It was inspired by Charles Mann’s 1906, The Story of Dogtown or In the Heart of Cape Ann, that compiles recollections about the outsiders, berry-pickers, subsistence farms and self-proclaimed witches that inhabited Dogtown after it was abandoned in the early 1800’s. A Matter of Balance Workshop
