A Letter from the Director...
Happy New Year!
The start of a new calendar year seems like an obvious time to talk about new beginnings. I'm sure some of you have a New Year's resolution or two! As we enter in to 2020, the Library Staff looks forward to offering many wonderful programs and services. In addition, the library will continue to work on outreach programming with our supporting municipalities, and strengthening our partnerships with local businesses and other non-profit organizations.
These are exciting times for the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity. I encourage you to take advantage of the many services the library offers. Let us know how we can best serve you!

We would like to take this time to thank everyone who showed their support for a fully funded library these last few months. From those who attended and/or spoke at the Upper Nazareth Township Supervisor Meetings, to the countless number phone calls, letters, emails of support we received, and those that were directed to Upper Nazareth Township.

Exchange canned goods for library overdue fines Monday, January 13th to Saturday, January 18th
at the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity.
Library patrons will get a $1 credit toward the reduction of fines for each item donated. (Food for Fines does not cover lost/damaged library items or future overdue fines.)
The food will be given to the Nazareth Area Food Bank.
Bring the items to the circulation desk at the library. Don't forget to bring your library card!
Dented cans, glass containers or expired items will not be accepted.
Suggested items include canned chicken, ham or tuna; canned vegetables (baked beans, tomatoes, peas); canned fruit; canned stew or chili; large and small cans of soup; peanut butter; boxed cereal; rice-a-roni. Go to

The year was 1969. Richard Nixon was in the White House. Neil Armstrong was on the Moon. And revolution was in the air. In that backdrop, 500,000 young people gathered on a mid-August weekend in upstate New York for the promise of three days of peace and music. What they experienced at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair was something far greater. Mike Greenblatt knows. He was there!
Join us for the evening while Mike talks about the book, the experience, and the long-lasting cultural ramifications of the event. Following a time of Q&A, he will be signing books (books will be available for sale at the event).
NOTE: Due to the nature of the book's subject and subsequent discussion,
this program is intended for mature audiences (ages 18 years and older only).

These sessions will be held
in half-hour
blocks where patrons can schedule 1:1 time with Joe McMaster (MLNV Software Coordinator) for assistance with any area of technology. Note: You must have a valid library card to take advantage of this free service.

Tax season is approaching and the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity is happy to announce that certified AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers will be available again this year to provide free tax form assistance to middle and low income taxpayers with special attention to those ages 60 and older. You do not have to be a senior citizen or an AARP member.
NO RESERVATIONS WILL BE TAKEN prior to the day of service. It is a walk-in first-come first-served basis. The Library opens at 9am on Saturdays.
This free service will be available on the following dates from 9:30am-1:30pm
February 1st, 8th, and 22nd
March 7th, 21st, and 28th
April 4th and 11th

Your admission to the event includes snacks (popcorn and pretzels) at 6pm, followed by a pizza and salad buffet at 7pm. You'll also receive 2 drink tickets that can be redeemed for 2 beers/ciders, or 1 wine.

"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a mouse...well... HOPEFULLY!"
Winter may not be a time of year that people equate with dealing with pests in their house, but the truth is your home has everything you and also pests need to survive and thrive. These needs are shelter, food, and water. As temperatures start to descend during the fall, pests are also "planning ahead" and are seeking out a place to overwinter or endure a long, cold winter. Let's examine one of these unwanted house guests: MICE.
Any structure can be invaded by mice in the winter, but mice will also happily live indoors all year round. If caught in the early stages, trapping mice as they come in can be very effective. Once they have started an indoor breeding population, then you may need to use rodent baits to get them under control. Mice have no control over their bladders or bowels, so they leave a trail of urine and fecal matter everywhere they travel. While the droppings are readily visible, the urine can only be seen with the use of a black light, so if you find dropping is your kitchen drawers, everything in the drawers should be thoroughly cleaned.
Mice have a variety of entry points to be aware of including but not limited to the following:
- Garage Doors
- Entry Doors with poor weatherstripping
- Windows (especially basement)
- Foundation Cracks and holes
- Utility lines
- Vents
- Chimneys
- Attic entry points
Even with the most dedicated efforts to manage this opportunistic creature, mice often still will find a way into one's home. Joshua Tree can help. We are piloting our BRAND NEW Pest Control Division in early 2020 with emphasis on your most common interior and exterior pests including small rodents such as mice. While Joshua Tree has not offered this service in the past we have a team that has substantial industry experience in Pest Management as well as the addition of a highly skilled Pest Specialist with incredible working knowledge.
