On Wednesday, March 1st our Lenten journey begins. Our Ash Wednesday service is at 7pm in the Sanctuary. This is what marks the beginning of Lent, so come and receive ashes. Lent is a time of focusing on our faith in Jesus and spiritual growth.
There are many people who won't get a chance to receive ashes, so we are also looking for volunteers to help anoint people with ashes at the Edgebrook Metra station during morning and afternoon rush hours. If you interested, please contact Pastor Joe at pastorjoe@edgebrooklutheran.org.

| Midweek Lenten Suppers and Services |
Our midweek Lenten suppers and services start at 6pm on Wednesdays. Supper in included in the service, which is held in Fellowship Hall.
Are you a good soup maker? Are you looking for a way to contribute but can't commit to an ongoing activity? Here is your chance!
Lent is nearly upon us and we need to plan our next food events. During our Lenten services on Wednesdays, we host a soup supper. At 6:00 PM we provide a simple meal that could be soup, or something else of your choosing. There are usually 30-40 people in attendance and every one of them will be thrilled with whatever you put on the table.
If you've never done this before, why not pair up with someone who has? If you don't know who to pair up with, contact Donna or Shelley and they can pair you up.
If any Ministry Teams would like to host a supper you are, of course, welcome to sign up.
The dates of our Lenten supper and services are:
March 8th
March 15th
March 22nd
March 29th
April 5th
There is no supper on Ash Wednesday.

Traditionally, as the season of Lent approaches Christians begin to think about what they can give up or go without during the season as a sacrifice for their faith.
It is a time of inward reflection. It is also a time to live out the second part of our mission statement of "Living the Gospel through Service." This year we are encouraging people to "Give To" something instead. We have two very good options...and we hope you do both...
The Mid-Week "Give To"
This year we will embark on a global service project for Lutheran World Relief called Project Promise: Building Personal Care Kits. These personal care kits can help people who are dealing with some of life's most difficult situations: the aftermath of earthquakes, and floods, fleeing home to escape violence and living in extreme poverty. These kits include a towel, soap, comb, nail clipper and a toothbrush. Our intention is to procure these items and when we meet for our Wednesday Night Lenten service we will construct these kits. In celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, our goal is to put together 500 personal care kits. We will need monetary donations to help fund the purchase of these items, which we estimate will cost approximately $2000. We encourage anyone who might want to be an "Angel" and help underwrite some of the cost of this very worthy project to contact Pastor Joe.
The Weekend "Give To"
We want to gather non-perishable food for the New Hope Community Food Pantry, which is located in Norwood Park. In celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, we are setting a goal of donating 500 pounds of non-perishable food during the season of Lent. It is a lofty goal, but doable if everyone pitches in. People are asked to bring their food donations to the worship service of their choice. Donations will be weighed and we will keep you posted as we near the 500 pound mark.

| Preparation for the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation |
During this year's season of Lent, Pastor Joe's sermons will be based on Martin Luther's Small Catechism. This will be a great opportunity for those new to the Lutheran faith and a wonderful refresher for those in our congregation who are life-long Lutherans.

On Tuesday, March 7
we are having our Senior Senior Lunch, starting at 10:30 am. There will be a program first, then lunch. If you would like to attend, please contact Jeannie Greenberg at

. If you are willing to pick up someone and drive them to the church and then back home, let Jeannie know.
On Friday, March 17 at 7pm, we will have A
Gardening Program with Pat Morin. Part of her discussion will be on getting the garden/yard ready for planting. Pat has always had a most interesting and informative program.
Please join us in Fellowship Hall.
