The City of Newport, Newport Economic Development Commission, Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Jackson County Courthouse will be closed Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday. Monday and Tuesday regular residential garbage route will run as usual. Thursday and Friday’s regular residential pick-up will run on Thursday, March 28.

 

The Jackson County Kids Outreach Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on Saturday, March 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at Remmel Park on Wilkerson Street. The community is invited for an Easter Egg Hunt, bounce house, zip line, and food. If anyone would like to donate candy, it can be dropped off at Affordable Wheels, 1004 Hwy 367 N. To volunteer to fill eggs contact Justin Southern 870-523-8673.

 

New Vision Newport Class 19 is hosting the March Motor Madness Auto Show on Saturday, March 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. located at the Village Mall parking lot. No entry fee and all builds (bikes, ATV's, SXS, cars, or trucks) are welcome.

 

Jackson County Wellness and Screening will be located at Food Smart on Wednesday, April 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. JCWS will do free prediabetes, diabetes, and blood pressure screenings. No fasting is required, and no appointment necessary.

 

Newport Kiwanis Club Annual Pancake Day will be Friday, April 5, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. located at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds support the youth of Jackson County. Tickets can be purchased by contacting any member of the Newport Kiwanis Club.

 

A Solar Eclipse 3-on3 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 219 Main Street. Teams are now being accepted, must be 16 years old and can have three or four players. Limit of 16 teams. Register by March 16 for a free tournament t-shirt. Cost is $150 per team. Cash prizes are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, $200 for third. Sponsored by White River Health & Merchants & Planters Bank. This is a New Vision Newport Class 19 team project. Entry forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce.

 

Monster Nights presents A Pre-Celestial Spectacle Eclipse Tailgate Party on Saturday, April 6, located in downtown Newport from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come kick off the Monster Nights Downtown Entertainment Series by reserving your tailgate spot. For more information or to reserve your tailgate spot contact the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce 870-523-3618. Even if you don’t want to tailgate, bring your lawn chair, and enjoy the music by Tim Meitzen and Band, Charlotte Taylor & Gypsy Rain, or Dueling Pianos.

 

Tech Depot will host ACT Bootcamp on Saturday, April 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $5 for students who live in Jackson County and $50 for students outside of Jackson County. Tech Depot will be working in conjunction with teachers from Newport High School. To register call Christel (870) 523-1009. Lunch is provided.


Join the Joe & Helen Harris Foundation for a fun afternoon of golf on Friday, May 10, starting at noon. Registration is $300 per team with contest and cash prizes. Tuckerman Hometown Days will be May 10 – 11, located at Tuckerman City Park. Vendor forms are due by May 1. ASBTDC is hosting a Startup Summit for small businesses on Tuesday, May 14, located at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, 209 Hazel Street. Startup & Finance will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Marketing & Business Plan will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no fee to participate but registration is required by calling 870-972-3517 by May 12.


The Jackson County Career Fair will be Thursday, May 16, located at Tech Depot (209 Hazel Street) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employers in Jackson County can register for the career fair by https://jacksoncountycareerfair_2024.eventbrite.com
