Dear Friends,
Let me begin with the quote that led me to offer these 40 days of encouragement. They come from Ilia Delio in her book The Not-Yet God. “Systems have become fractured, because we humans have become fractured. To build the inner self through meditation and contemplation is the basis of the ethical task of building the global community and the earth itself.” (p. 228)
Beginning the last week of September, and forward to the week of the US elections, you are invited to be encouraged, thoughtfully led, provoked to good, and invited into an additional discipline (like Jesus’ fasting in the desert that we find in Matthew 4) through readings and reflections from Ilia Delio, Teilhard de Chardin, Carl Jung, Thomas Merton, Raimon Pannikar, and others. We shall do all this together as a way to participate in “the ethical task of building the global community and the earth itself.”
Our format for this time will be:
- a weekly voice memo sent to your inbox to listen to at your leisure
- an email with further thoughts for encouragement and reflection
- a group Zoom gathering on consecutive Thursday evenings
The total of seven meetings will begin September 26 and complete on November 7. Our weekly zoom gathering will be a time of Lectio Divina, meditation, and a brief sharing of thoughts from our weekly voice memo.
My goal for this event is just what Dr. Delio prescribes: “to build the inner self through meditation and contemplation…that we might be builders of the global community and the earth itself.” I’d love to have you join me for these 40 days.
Although this special opportunity is offered freely, we ask all who register to consider making a donation to WCCM-USA of $20 to help us present more events like this in the future. You may do that through our Donate button on the WCCM-USA website (https://wccm-usa.org/support-our-work/). Please share this opportunity with others who may be interested.
See you in September!
