Hi Everyone,
Spring is here and it's time to get gardening! There's a lot I want to share with you.
First, grab a cup of tea and then check out this wonderful article about the N.J. flora and fauna in spring from N.J. Skylands. Then make sure to check out the upcoming gardening class this weekend below. Later in the month, on 4/16, we're hosting a free Lawn Care class at 11 am. Come with questions!
We want to thank to Daryl & Carrie from Sunset Farmstead for their wonderful Pollinator Garden Class last weekend. We learned a lot about some powerhouse perennials, and the uses of native plants as well as non-natives in the garden--all benefitting our local insects and birds. Check out our new native shrub area. We moved it closer to the building, right in front of the propane filling area, so the plants can get more sun.
Save the date! April 23rd is 'Glenwild Day' in Bloomingdale. Come celebrate the weekend with us. More details to come!
April To-Dos:
- Add compost to your garden beds
- Seed sowing-start tomatoes, etc. indoors before May 1 (See more info below)
- Direct sow (seeds go right in the ground) Peas, spinach, radishes, etc.
- Any vegetable and herb plants we have for sale outside can be planted in the ground
- Buy row covers for chilly nights
- Fertilize perennial and shrub beds with a slow release organic fertilizer
Right now we have pansies and early spring annuals, lots of herb and veggie plants, and Easter Plants coming this week, TONS of new pottery, and almost a full nursery of shrubs and trees. Deliveries are coming multiple times a week, so stop in and see what's new.
I hope to see you soon,
Jodie

SEED STARTING TIME
We have all you need to start your seeds!
We work with 3 seed companies, Hart's, Renee's, & Hudson Valley. All wonderful companies! Click here for an introduction to Hart's Seeds, which has been in business since the late 1800's. Our grandmother brought Hart's into the shop to sell somewhere between 1958 and the late 1960's and we've been selling them ever since.
Click here for a seed sowing guide for the northeast. This week is perfect for starting your tomatoes & eggplant seeds indoors, and your spinach & peas directly into the ground.
We have:
- Seeds from Renee's Garden, Hart's Seed, & Hudson Valley Seed
- Seed starting soils--Espoma, Coast of Maine & Fox Farm
- 'Jiffy' Pots, self watering trays, & other assorted seed starting pots
- Trays & humidity domes
- Heating mats
- Germination lighting
- Seed labelling markers
- Neptune's Harvest and Superthrive fertilizer to give seedlings the boost they need
