MCC Has A New Inclement Weather and Closure Policy

Effective July 1, 2024

On occasion, inclement weather may affect the operation of MCC facilities, programs and services. Decisions regarding closures or cancellations are made with the utmost regard for the safety of our participants and staff.

In the event of inclement weather, MCC posts all facility closures and delays on the MCC website and on MCC social media platforms. Participants enrolled in MCC classes or Old Firehouse Center activities, and Alden Theatre ticket holders will receive email notification if their programs are canceled.

MCC facilities now follow the status of Fairfax County Government for closures. If Fairfax County Government is closed for the entire day, all MCC programs, facility rentals and services are canceled. Final discretion is held by the MCC Executive Director to authorize closures or delays outside of Fairfax County-wide closures or delays.

6 Tips to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect This Summer

Many students are entering the time of year when they will be without resources provided by schools. Community members are encouraged to help support children and families in need.

Children’s lives can be positively changed and even saved by active and aware community members making that critically important decision to ask more questions and offer help. Many situations and conditions are preventable once community programs and systems are engaged to support families.

Fairfax County Department of Family Services has some suggestions on how you can help.

Below are six ways you can help prevent child abuse and neglect.

  1. Be aware of the signs of abuse and neglect.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Child Supervision Guidelines.
  3. Refer families to the Parent Support Line available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at 703-324-7720.
  4. If you have concerns about a child’s safety, call the Child Protective Services’ 24-hour hotline at 703-324-7400.
  5. Spread the Word about Free Virtual Body Safety Classes open to any Pre-K through sixth grade students living in Fairfax County.
  6. Children thrive when they have regular interactions with responsive, caring adults.
