MULTIPLE CLOSURES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AT THE HRBT OVERNIGHT ON MARCH 26 FOR OVERHEAD SIGN INSTALLATION

Motorists should expect major delays and use the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.

HAMPTON – Crews performing Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project construction work have scheduled multiple full closures at the HRBT to erect new sign structures over the interstate.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 64 in both directions should expect to be stopped overnight on Tuesday, March 26. There will be up to three full closures, each lasting up to 60 minutes, between 11 p.m. on March 26 and 4 a.m. on March 27. During the closures, traffic will be diverted away from the HRBT. To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT) as an alternate route.

The backup date for this work will be Wednesday, March 27.

All construction schedules are subject to change due to impending weather or other unexpected circumstances. Construction updates and lane closure alerts can be found at HRBTexpansion.org.

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling near work zones. Before hitting the road, consider using VDOT's free 511 Virginia traffic tools, or the free 511-integrated Waze GPS app, to check for the most up-to-date road and travel conditions. VDOT’s 511Virginia.org website and mobile app offer information about construction, traffic, incidents, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather-related impacts and more.
