31st Annual World Day of Prayer

Blessed Greetings, Daryn,

In 1994, the Unity Prayer Ministry, Silent Unity, began setting an intention to hold the world in the light of a single affirmative thought, maximizing the power of group prayer. It originated from an idea raised the year prior.

This year, our 31st annual World Day of Prayer event coincides with Patriot Day, a public holiday in the United States, a day of service and remembrance in honor of the tragic losses during the events of September 11, 2001.

As you ponder, journal, and pray over the following Reflection Questions, I invite you to allow these next 24 hours to be a time of service, for you - from you, to the world around you.

2024 World Day of Prayer – Reflection Questions

1. How has faith empowered and emboldened your thinking? When has it moved you from uncertainty to audacity in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges? Are you willing to apply faith to a daunting situation and be open to wondrous results?

2. How has your faith grown and matured? What have your disappointments taught you about faith? When your faith is waning, how do you encourage yourself?

3. What are ways in which you can join your faith with others in response to communal crises or collective needs? Is there a particular issue that lies heavy on your heart, but you feel powerless to address alone? How can you connect with others and activate your combined faith to move the mountain?

If you've not already done so, please click the above image to register (FREE!) for the online events being presented by Silent Unity, at our World Headquarters in Unity Village. We will hold a local prayer service on the 12th at 6:00 p.m.

This Sunday, we welcome lifelong Unity student John Henson to our platform - he will be our speaker! Afterward, the Board of Trustees will host a Town Hall Meeting, starting at 12:30 p.m. Until we meet again, keep on praying!

Yours In Unity,

"How To Speak Unity"

based upon the book

by Temple Hayes

August 25 - October 6

9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

(In-Person ONLY)

From Your Facilitator, Daryn L. Wells, LUT:

Each of us knows someone who is seeking something - something which they may not be able to define. What do we tell them about Unity? Our local ministry in Columbus? How do we answer the question, "What Is Unity?"

This class will empower YOU to explain Unity in a succinct, relatable way to those curious seekers you know. It will also provide you with a deeper understanding of our teachings, fortifying you with the confidence to discuss Unity with ease and grace.

From the publisher, DeVorss Publications:

Spirituality today has become much more personal than yesterday's religions. People long to explore, express and empower them-selves, without the traditional outer layers of a defined doctrine or denomination. In this environment, the message becomes peace, love, joy and freedom and resonates as "home."

Unity is a home offering a positive, practical, progressive approach to spirituality, honoring the universal truths in all religions and respecting each individual's right to choose a spiritual path that fulfills their unique lifestyle. HOW TO SPEAK UNITY is an A-Z guide for living life as it’s meant to be lived, fully and joyfully.

Each year in September, the global Unity Movement holds a sacred intention to unite hearts and minds in affirmative prayer for 24 hours.

All who participate are invited to hold a central affirmation in mind, and to pray from this awareness.

This year's affirmation is:

"Fueled by faith, I can move mountains."

The Unity Prayer Ministry, Silent Unity, will lead online events from Unity Village (click above for more info), and local Unity ministries will hold activities throughout World Day of Prayer, as well.

Join us for the 31st Annual World Day of Prayer at Unity of Columbus this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. We will hold a special Prayer Service at that time.

Great Lakes Region Fall Conference

Join us at Unity of Columbus for a unique experience - Our Annual Fall Conference will be held at our local Unity center, one of three sites hosting the event. This is a "first" in the history of our region!

This year’s theme is “Creative Flow,” based upon the recently-published book by author / artist Jenny Hahn, who is also the Keynote Speaker on Tuesday, September 24. Copies of her book will be available at each site for purchase.

On Wednesday, September 25, Jenny will be facilitating a powerful Process Painting workshop – a truly exciting, experiential, meditative exercise, designed to evoke the creative spark in us.

Other speakers include Rev. Jim Blake, CEO of Unity World Headquarters and Rev. Roxanne

Graves, COO of Unity Worldwide Ministries. Singer-songwriter Kim-Char Meredith will inspire us with her amazing music throughout the Conference.

Each site will have breakout sessions in the afternoons, which will vary by location, as well as many opportunities to connect, network, and build relationships with congregants and leaders from other Unity ministries.

The Creative Flow of the Universe takes shape in many ways – which we bring into expression. Don't miss this exciting experience! Click HERE to register!

Unity's Statement of Social Action Position

Webster defines the word “unity” as “the state of forming a complete and pleasing whole....”

At this time in the evolution of the planet and the lives of human beings upon it, the task of “forming a complete and pleasing whole” is the imperative for positive evolution and harmonious existence for all.

This perspective has seemingly been lost—our wholeness, our oneness, our same-ness as a human race. We must now remember more than ever, that we have much more in common than that which divides us.

The Unity movement stands for and will tirelessly work for harmony so all people may know the freedom of peaceful expression; so they may know their own inner worth and essential contribution to the whole of life.

• Where there are divisions of opinions, beliefs and perspectives, Unity embraces curiosity, exploration and expanded awareness of the gifts of diversity.
• Where there is fear of “the other,” Unity stands for inclusivity and peaceful acceptance of another’s right to create the life of his or her choosing.
• Where there is oppression and hatred, we stand for justice and understanding, and for extending compassion, kindness and forgiveness to restore balance.
• Where there is discrimination, we stand for inclusivity and equality. We pledge to be an advocate for the well-being, respect and civil freedom of every human being.

Any proposal or action that seeks to discriminate against individuals or classes of individuals based on prejudiced, stereotypic profiles of national origin, class, creed, race, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation or gender identity is in opposition to the core beliefs and values established by our founders.

We choose Unity. In harmony with the divine Spirit we stand, so we may live in a spiritually awakened world that is continually evolving.

This is our prayer and our decree. Through our actions, we let it be.

#ChooseUnity
