Celebrating Musical Theater

This month, a special musical theater review from our archives.

Earlier this month, former State of the Arts host & producer Amber Edwards wrote about her 2007 national PBS documentary, Words and Music by Jerry Herman, now available to watch for the first time in years. Leading up to that film, Amber produced a 6 1/2 minute story for State of the ArtsJerry Herman: Gray Eminence, which we're featuring this week. In it, Jerry Herman demonstrates how to bring out the pathos in one of his songs during a rehearsal, and describes pivotal moments from his career.
