A few words from our Executive Director

As this summer draws to a close, we have much to reflect upon and be grateful for at St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity. July was an eventful month filled with joyous celebrations and fruitful endeavors. We had the privilege of celebrating four home dedications, with each one being a testament to the strength of our community and the power of collaborative effort. Our groundbreaking ceremony for the Deleon Villas marked another exciting step forward in our mission to provide affordable housing to more families in need. Let's not forget the fantastic Trivia Night hosted by Baron Real Estate that introduced a fun twist to our fundraising activities.

August promises to be just as exciting, and we are thrilled to invite you to our indoor cornhole 'Battle of the Bags' event on August 19th. It will be an exciting and friendly night of competition as well as an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause. The proceeds from the event will benefit St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity and support our new home construction program, which allows us to serve more families in our community.

While summer is ending, our community faces a serious shortage of affordable housing for working families in St. Lucie County. What determines affordability? According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, housing is generally considered affordable when a household spends no more than 30% of its monthly income on housing costs. According to the most recent United Way ALICE report (Asset Limited, Income constrained, Employed) – 34% of St. Lucie County families are ALICE households. These households earn more than the Federal Poverty Level but less than the basic cost of living in the county. This contributes to the growing need for building affordable, accessible housing in our community.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity. Together, we are making a difference with every home we build.
