2014 UWSC Stuff the Bus
scheduled for July 7-23

With the goal of helping students start the next school year with the materials and supplies necessary to be successful, United Way of Sumner County will hold its 4th Annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive July 7-23.
In addition to collecting basic school supplies, this year's Stuff the Bus will again include volunteer opportunities, sponsorship opportunities, and workplace collection drives. (Click HERE for complete details!)

United Way of Sumner County is pleased to partner with COMPASS, the United Chambers of Commerce of Sumner County, Sumner County Schools, Walmart, and The News Examiner/Star News to make Stuff the Bus a success. More than 750 disadvantaged Sumner County students received backpacks filled with school supplies last year as a part of the program.

If you are interested in being a Stuff the Bus volunteer, want to sponsor a student, or would like to hold an internal school supply collection drive at your church, business, or civic club, give us a call at 461-8371 or email Special Events Coordinator Lindsay McMillan at lindsay@unitedwaysumner.org.

Details on needed supplies, drop-off sites, and all the ways you can get involved and make a difference in the lives of local children can be found on the UWSC website.

UWSC allocations volunteers review agency funding applications.
UWSC announces allocations
totaling $490,815 for 2014-15

Thirty-two non-profit education, health, and human service programs serving Sumner County residents, three programs serving Macon County, and the Middle Tennessee 2-1-1 helpline service will receive a combined $490,815 in funding allocations from United Way of Sumner County for the 2014-15 fiscal year that began July 1.

The allocations were made possible by donations during the 2013 United Way charitable giving campaign.

The distribution of 2014-15 allocations was overseen by more than 40 volunteers from the across the county who donated their time and expertise to review funding applications, make agency site visits, hear agency presentations, and make allocation recommendations. Those recommendations were then reviewed by the UWSC Executive Allocations Committee, which made its recommendation to the full UWSC Board of Directors. The Board approved those recommendations at its May Board meeting.

To learn where funds were allocated, you can read the entire allocations press release HERE, or you may visit the 2014-15 Allocations Page of our website.

Partner agencies participate in
Lunch & Learn CPR training

United Way of Sumner County launched a series of informative sessions for workplace campaigns and funded partner agencies in June to increase awareness and education in the four focus areas of Education, Income/Financial Stability, Health and Rebuilding Lives. The inaugural program of the series was a CPR class.

Jason Erlewine, emergency preparedness coordinator with TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, in conjunction with Volunteer State Community College, delivered three two-hour classes across three days to 33 registered participants from 12 UWSC Funded Partner Agencies. In addition to teaching lifesaving techniques, Erlewine shared valuable real-world experience with the participants based on his career as a paramedic and firefighter in Sumner County.
