Experience of a Lifetime

for Walsh Summer Work Experience Students

Recently Walsh Summer Work Experience Program students toured Oxford Airport and learned about the many careers in aviation. They were introduced to careers in aviation maintenance, Civil Air Patrol, detailing/cleaning, aircraft rescue and fire fighting, and fixed base operators.

At the conclusion of the trip, Pushpita Hossain, Gabriela Hernandez Santos, and Kaylynne Yorkhill presented an art piece that showcased the future plans of each student to one of the program funders.

The Walsh Summer Work Experience Program is an 8-week program that prepares youth to enter the workplace, gain work readiness skills, and self-confidence. This year twenty-five students from Bristol Central, Bristol Eastern, and E.C. Goodwin High Schools were selected to participate. The program is run through the United Way of West Central Connecticut.

The Walsh Summer Work Experience Program (WSWEP) is funded by the Tim and Mary Walsh Charitable Fund at the Main Street Community Foundation, Farmington Bank Community Foundation, the City of Bristol Community Development Block Grant, and the Wally Barnes Fund for Community Leadership Initiatives at the Main Street Community Foundation.
