Last Saturday, The Bargain Basket celebrated National Thrift Shop Day by supporting Our Daily Bread Food Pantry.
Customers were given 10% off their purchase for that day if they brought in food for the pantry. Additionally, 10% of the Bargain Basket sales for that day were given to the food pantry.
We are proud to report that the celebration brought in over 5 overflowing bins of food for the pantry and provided a $650 donation.
The best part? Hardly anyone actually took advantage of the discount. Our generous Marco Island community came out to support those in need just for the love of giving back!
Many thanks to all who donated, shopped or helped spread the word.

In the beginning , storytelling was passed on by word of mouth. The idea behind this was so that we could share our experiences with our children, friends and others. Your Social Events team will be having a storytelling session of our own and we will experience the joy of movement in our stories by creating action pictures. Please join us in Disseler Hall on August 28 at 12:00 for lunch followed by our program presented by Pam Shudes.
To ensure that we have enough food and supplies, please sign up in the Narthex.

Last week, Dylan and Ian Zarate were introduced as part of a core group of students that are making a new STEAM lab at Marco Island Charter Middle School possible. Ian and Dylan are pictured above and featured in a Coastal Breeze Article showcasing the ribbon cutting for the new STEAM lab. | |
David Fuller's exhibit that we mentioned last week, Gen A Kids, was also featured in the Coastal Breeze News. If you haven't seen it yet, the exhibit is on display at the Marco Island Center for the Arts, Rush Gallery, now through the first week of September. | |

Need a Ride?
Just a reminder to anyone whose age or health might preclude them from driving to worship on Sunday morning. Through United Church’s Rush Fund, we offer a free ride to church on Sunday mornings through a local transportation company.
To be eligible, you must live on Marco Island or in South Naples (on 951) If you’re interested, call our church office: 239-394-6572

Angel Food Ministry
The Angel Food Ministry helps relieve the burden of meal preparation for our church family and Bargain Basket volunteers by allowing them to rest in the knowledge that meals will be provided during times of difficulty.
