It will bring 362 jobs to Platte County, and it is estimated there will be an economic impact of $295 million in direct salaries and $190 million in salaries paid to the indirect and induced jobs. Port of Kansas City Year Wraps up Full Year of Operations
The Port of Kansas City-Woodswether Terminal saw approximately 45,000 tons of cargo this year, the first full year of operations under Port KC. That is an increase of over 30,000 tons from 2015. The barges transported fertilizer and mill scale, with peak months being March, May and August. Barge traffic will stop over the winter months and will resume once precipitation raises the water level. Using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) predictions, the port expects to resume traffic around April 2017. Next year, the Woodswether Terminal expects to continue its growth and receive 70,000 tons of fertilizer, scrap and mill scale.

Additional rail construction is also underway at the port, which will reconnect rail to the Union Pacific Main Line and meet Port KC's goals of creating a multimodal freight center. The railroad spur will be completed mid-January 2017.

The company is occupying approximately 8,000 square feet at Richards-Gebaur.

Corrigan Station Grand Opening
Exciting developments are underway for Corrigan Station, a Port KC financed project. The grand opening for its 10 story building and 277 space parking garage on the corner of 19th and Walnut took place December 15. The garage will also feature eight electric car charging stations. The building will be available for tenant use during the day and will be open for a nominal fee to the public on evenings and weekends.
The Roasterie plans to open a new Crossroads café on the first floor of the building in March. This Kansas City air-roasted coffee company will serve coffee, specialty drinks, pastries from Baked In Kansas City, and other various food and retail items.
Additional tenants will be announced soon.
Bar K Lab at the Port Terminal
Bar K, the new dog park/bar/restaurant opening soon in Berkley Riverfront Park, has rented a 16,000 square foot warehouse at the Port of Kansas City - Woodswether Terminal to use as a temporary indoor location during construction of its permanent facility.  The new indoor space will be called the "Bar K Lab"... get it?  There are plans for a number of "Pup-Up" events in the Lab during the cold winter months, and the Lab will also be used to build and test all kinds of fun play equipment and recreational activities.

Check out Bar K's website and Facebook page for the latest information.
418 th  Civil Affairs Battalion Visits the Port Terminal
