To Bridge... and Beyond!

On Saturday, May 4th, Bridge Boston opened our doors to welcome our Alumni back home.

Why Basketball?

In the words of our Executive Director Orin Gutlerner, “School culture is the things we intentionally do together in order to keep us together.” At Bridge Boston, this pretty often means basketball.

Greeted by their favorite smiling teachers and 150 of their former classmates, our Bridge Alumni joined us back in the gym for basketball, food, & fond memories. Prior to the game, our Alumni were found sharing hugs, laughs, and old stories, meanwhile lacing up their shoes and warming up to play.

Who are our Alumni?

Every single grade, from our very first Class of 2018 all the way to our current 8th graders (soon-to-be Alumni!) was represented on the court or in the stands. The majority of our alumni were with us for the long hall: they began at Bridge in K1 and stayed with us all the way through their eighth grade graduation. Our first generation of Bridge Boston Alumni are currently seniors in high school, many of which are preparing to go off to college at places like Howard University, Dartmouth College, Syracuse University, Curry College, and Framingham State University.

The Value of a Bridge Boston Education

A Bridge Boston education reaches farther than just the walls of our building. 100% of alumni surveys reported that at least one teacher from Bridge made a significant difference in their lives. Many of these educators continue to teach at Bridge, making an impact on each generation of scholars.

Being full-service, it is of utmost importance to us to ensure our scholars are prepared not only for school, but for the life ahead of them. Every single Alumni self-identified in our survey that they are on-track to finish high school in 4 years, and since beginning high school, over 80% of BBCS alumni indicated that they have taken on at least one leadership role in a club, sports team, job, or volunteer position. Bridge prepares scholars to not only succeed, but lead!

It All Comes Back to Community

At Bridge, we have developed a school culture of intentional community that keeps students supported and our alumni connected. Keeping in touch with our Alumni is important to Bridge Boston because we are keeping our community connected. 94% of our Alumni agreed they were proud to have attended Bridge Boston Charter School, showing our community continues to impact our students even after they leave. We also know that many of our 8th grade scholars will be greeted by their fellow Jaguars at their new high schools this fall.

After all, our mission says: Bridge Boston Charter School ensures our Scholars can achieve their greatest potential in high school and beyond. Because of their time at Bridge, we know our alumni are equipped to make a bold difference in our world

The Hernandez Bilingual School in Egleston Square is recruiting for their next class of Primeras Maestras! This is a paid-training program for bilingual or spanish-speaking family members to become educators and paraprofessional in public schools. This includes being paid to take college classes from Urban College in Spanish and classes in English, math, and teaching skills.

Applications are due May 31st and the program begins in September. To apply, contact Johanna Littlewood.
