A few years ago Caroline Watson-Felt and others were considering a tagline to use for our banner as we marched in the Pride Parade. The one she came up with was "Encounter Unconditional Grace." I think this is the kind of expereine we all have had and want others to have at Grace Church.
This past weekend, I attended the consecration of Sam Rodman, whom you may remember preached a great sermon when visiting us a few years back. Sam is now The Right Reverend Samuel Rodman III, Bishop Diocesan of North Carolina. The whole service was an experience of encountering unconditional grace, from the music selected to the amazing sermon preached by our own Bishop Gayle Harris. Disarming humor helps for sure, but the clear message of the Episcopal Church to go and reconcile is quite remarkable in a world looking for uncommon rather than common ground.
I also attended church in a parish in Raleigh on Sunday. The same thing happened here. All of the sudden, I was overcome with real joy at being part of a denomination that over and over again speaks to the human experience and of ways to go out and reconcile people through love.
These services allowed me to encounter unconditional grace in new and vibrant ways. May we continue to be a place where ALL people may encounter the Divine Love of Christ. - Debbie

This Sunday, we hear the familiar parable of the wheat and the weeds.
At 10:30 am, our guest priest will be The Very Reverend Kenneth Poppe. Before his retirement in 2012, Ken Poppe served as Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral in Burlington, VT. He also served parishes in Shaker Heights, OH; Kinnelon, NJ; Ridgewood, NJ; Lincoln Park, NJ; Short Hills, NJ and Greenville DE. He and his wife have two grown children: Kimberly, who teaches buddhist meditation and contemplative photography in Amsterdam, and Justin, who is an mural artist and graphic designer in Washington, DC. Plum Island in Newbury, Massachusetts has been their home since retirement. We are so delighted to have him here with us today!
All children of any faith (or none) are invited to join us at 10:30 am for the Abundant Life Garden Project. In its fifth year, this program teaches the children how to work together to grow vegetables which they then give to various food pantries.
Punch on the Patio will follow the 10:30 am service. Come and enjoy some light refreshments as we share conversation.
At 5:00 pm, our guest priest is The Reverend David Prentice. The music will come from the Celtic tradition, as well as the prayers and poetry. The theme during the summer months is "A Season of Rest." All are welcome to come to this quiet and reflective time with God and one another.
Please join us wherever you are in your search for meaning.

Weekend Grocery Program Conitnues This Friday!!!!
|
Last week, our parish provided weekend groceries to 8 families. They shared with us what a difference this was going to make in their lives.
We, at Grace Church, are concerned about food sources for those families over the weekend. So on Friday during the weeks that lunch will be offered at the library, we will give away bags of groceries.
In these grocery bags will be a recipe card for a healthy meal, such as a casserole, that will provide two meals for a family of four. All the ingredients for these recipes will be included in the bags. There will be other fresh produce included as well.
Paige Nalipinski is the team leader for this project. Why not give her a call (or email) and see how you can help in some way? We need people to help bag the groceries each Friday and others to be present to hand them out from 1:00 pm to 2 pm. If you have menu ideas, send them along too. We also need shoppers (Paige has a prepared grocery list for each week) for August 4 and 18.
Jesus calls us to "feed my sheep." Here is a very little thing we can do that will make a big impact.

Marc Hawlena has a new granddaughter!!
Her name is Dylan Rose Clarkson. Blessings to Marc and his family!
Joanne Moar is home recovering from her surgery two weeks ago. She will be joining us again soon for Sunday services.
Jane Stewart's mother died Tuesday night. Jane had been going to New York every week for extended weekends to provide care for her for the last few months. Please keep Jane in your prayers. May her mother rest in peace and rise in glory!
