The ongoing war in Ukraine has, understandably, put a damper on many celebrations. Regardless of this war, nothing can stop the plans God has for every one of these students. This November, we took time to award three INSTE students their hard-earned diplomas. We rejoice in the accomplishment of these students. 

The students overcame many barriers to finish their studies. First, the Covid-19 restrictions that kept everyone from coming together. Then the full-scale invasion. They have persevered despite air raid alarms, lack of heating and electricity, and using candlelight to be able to see and study. Some of them were evacuated during the first days of war, but all have felt the stress of war. They faithfully served in the leadership of their church putting into practice the things they were learning. Something I love about INSTE is that through studies and personalized mentoring, we help leaders do better in what they’re gifted in and called to do. Only God makes leaders, but INSTE helps them prepare and become the leaders that God has called them to be! I see the fruit in these students’ lives!

On graduation day, I spoke briefly about John 16:33 (NIV), where Jesus told his disciples, “In this world you will have trouble.” This verse might not be a stirring speech for graduates, but it reminds us that even with a diploma, life is not without problems. We are encouraged by the following words of Jesus, “But be encouraged, I have overcome the world!" If we abide in Him, we can have a victorious life. What comforting words!

I am grateful for the Inste students in Ukraine who continue to study despite the stress of war. We celebrate and bless these three students who received their diplomas! Well done!
