Capital Campaign Clarifications

We’re on our way to funding Phase 2 of our capital campaign, Sacred Space, Safe Space. Thanks to many generous investors, most recently Charlotte Ulm, Julia & Jere Darling, Terry Parsons, Alana Schuller, Sarah Miller, Kathy & Chris Faller, Larry Jones, Mary & Vic Dhooge, Norma Showalter,Jan Berlin, Andi & Don Macleod,James Hallinan and a very generous offer from Caroline Demar to double all new pledges up to $200,000.

To clarify the numbers: we started the campaign with a little over $500,000 in the capital fund from our earlier campaign and Spirit Level grants. Our goal is $1.1 million total, or $600,000 in new pledges. As of this writing, we are at $457,400 in new pledges, for a total of $957,400, or 87% of our goal. We hope to complete our campaign by June 2. Payments are not due until Dec. 31, 2024 (half) and June 30, 2025 (remainder).

If we can get $100,000 in new pledges, with Caroline’s match, we can make our goal. Whether you can invest $500 or $25,000, all commitments are welcome and needed to make sure our sacred space is safe and accessible for all. You can make your pledge here

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction continues on the Administration Building Addition and Remodel with completion estimated for sometime in August, depending on weather of course, and any unforeseen conditions. Exterior and interior framing is nearly complete, with electrical rough-in getting started and windows, exterior finishes, insulation and drywall to follow shortly after. Our Architectural/Engineering team are currently addressing preliminary and first round comments from the Coastal Commission and City of Solana Beach related to Phase 2 permit review.

Phase 2 is essentially the parking lot expansion as mandated by the Fire Marshal, along with associated landscape and site accessibility improvements. The Fellowship’s goal is to award a contract for construction for the Phase 2 work in the Fall. The Capital Campaign fund raising is still underway, hoping to wrap up in early June. Thank you for your patience while construction is underway and especially for your attention to safety anywhere near the construction site.

All Ages Art Club

Bring your own materials and a friend, work on your own project, share what you're doing with the group (or not), and enjoy the creative camaraderie. We have extra materials if you forget to bring yours. And there will be plenty of food so you won't go hungry.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION AT UUFSD

Wear Orange - Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Ushers will hand out Orange Ribbons at the Service

Join us in honoring survivors and building community with those working to

end gun violence.

On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed every June. Thousands of people wear the color orange to honor Hadiya and the more than 43,000 Americans that are killed with guns and approximately 76,000 more are shot and wounded every year.

Looking for Mandated Reporters

The UUFSD Safe Congregation Task Force has been hard at work developing child abuse prevention policies and procedures required by new legislation (AB506) that pertains to any organization that serves youth. Our new policies and procedures will be fully in place by June 30th, and you will be hearing more about that soon.

One policy that has already been implemented is to have two Mandated Reporters on site each Sunday morning. You many have noticed the names of the Mandated Reporters posted on the bulletin board in the core area each Sunday.

If you are a Mandated Reporter and willing to serve in this capacity on a Sunday, please reach out to Angie Knappenberger (angie3886@gmail.com).
