UUFF eNews - Week of June 13, 2024

Sunday 11am Service

Sunday, June 16th: "Who Are We?" At the most recent UUFF leadership event, we engaged in a wonderful exploratory exercise put out by UUA. It was so good that Rev. Renée wants to go deeper and hear also from YOU, the Beloved UUFF Community.

You can attend service in person at the fellowship building or view it remotely online via Facebook Live Stream. To attend via Facebook, click on: https://www.facebook.com/share/fZ5Eo9Tx2WU5T1AB/ at exactly 11am Central Standard Time (CST), and then click on "Watch Live Video. You don't need a Facebook account to access.

The UUFF Nursery (located downstairs) offers childcare during both the 10am Religious Exploration hour and the 11am Service.

Please see Nursery Coordinator, Alex Emmons if you need to register your child(ren) or if you have questions.

We are currently seeking an additional Nursery Childcare Assistant to join the UUFF Nursery Crew!

CLICK HERE to read the job description (also includes job application form). If you are interested, please fill out the included employment application, and turn it in to the Nursery or the Office.

Sunday 10AM Religious Exploration Classes

Meditation Group - each Sunday morning via zoom, starting at 9am.

If you'd like to attend or just to know more, please contact UUFF's Operation Manager, Christina Maples, at uuff.ar.CMaplesOM@gmail.com

NOTE: Meditation Group will continue to meet via Zoom each Sunday while other RE groups are taking a Summer Break.

Adult RE Mindful Discussion is held at 10am each Sunday in the downstairs common room. All are welcome.

Topic this Sunday: "Progressive Christianity and Unitarian Universalism: Similarities and Differences." Many, if not most, UU's come to Unitarian Universalism from other faith traditions. One of the most common is Christianity. Some UU's may still adhere to Christian beliefs, adopting some of the tenets of Progressive Christianity. This week, we'll explore the similarities and differences between Progressive Christianity and Unitarian Universalism. We hope you'll join us.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: This group WILL NOT MEET during July-August or Labor Day Weekend. Will start back on Sunday, September 8th.**

Youth (ages 11+) and Children's (ages 4-11) Religious Exploration Classes are offered each Sunday at 10am in the classrooms downstairs.

Questions about this Sunday or about YRE or CRE in general? Contact Leanda Gavin (lmshelby@gmail.com) or Stephanie Bentley (stephmacbentley@gmail.com).

**IMPORTANT NOTE: CRE/YRE will be off for summer break during July-August and Labor Day Weekend. Will start back on Sunday, September 8th.**

UUFF Events, Announcements & Opportunities

Gender and Pronouns Workshop

Sunday, June 23rd, 12:30-3pm in the UUFF Sanctuary.

Do you find pronouns or gender confusing? Have you noticed a recent wave in people sharing their personal pronouns? Are you afraid of messing it up? Are you wondering how or why this stuff even applies to you? Well then, do we have just the event for you!

Ben (he/him) and E (any) have put together a workshop where we will attempt to demystify the concepts of sex and gender and explain the link (or lack thereof) to the use of personal pronouns. This presentation will be complete with "lunchy" snacks, bracelet making, and other activities! Due to the complex nature of the information that will be shared, this workshop is targeted mainly for adults, but anyone 9+ years old may join if accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Childcare WILL be available if requested by 06/21. Please indicate the need for that when you register via the link below. Also indicate any dietary restrictions or special food needs.

Please CLICK HERE to register by Friday, June 21st, so that we can plan food, supplies, seating, etc. accordingly!

SAVE-THE-DATE: UUFF's First Annual Fall Festival will be September 29th, 2024. The Fall Festival is guaranteed to be fun for all and you won't want to miss it, so mark your calendars now! Be on the lookout for more details coming soon!

UUFF family, it’s PRIDE SEASON, and for the first time ever, we will have a table at the Pride Festival - the weekend of June 28th-30th!

As usual, UUFF will participate in both the Pride Parade (on Saturday, June 29th) and the Trans March (on Friday, June 28th), and this year we are taking this amazing community outreach opportunity a step further by reserving table space for the events! Enoch Anglin will be heading the table and would love to have some folks join in the fun and help them out.

On Saturday, June 29th, the Pride Booth opens at 8am for set up. The festival starts at 11am and ends at 4:30pm. Right after that, at 5pm, we will be joining the Pride Parade! We will need marchers and are looking for a truck to turn into a float, so if you have a truck and want to deck it out, please contact us!

We will also have a vendor booth at the Trans March Festival on Friday, June 28th! We will start setting up at 5pm, and the festival lasts from 7pm-10pm. We need volunteers to help with this table as well!

If you are interested in helping out in any way, please contact Enoch (enochanglin@gmail.com)! Happy Pride y’all!

Dallas Arceneaux is heading up UUFF's relationship with 7hills Homeless Center, and he is happy to continue transporting donations. We have a specially labeled collection cart in the UUFF lobby by the entrance doors, or you can drop off donations at the center yourself. To check the current needs, go to: https://7hillscenter.org/7hills-needs-list/

In addition to the online list, we have also been made aware of a current special need for electrolyte hydration powder packets that can be added to water to prevent dehydration (see pictured example). These can literally be a life-saver as the warm seasons come upon us. THANKS for your support!
