"The Fondness Factor"
Rev. Denis Paul
and Elizabeth Donovan
In a world where extreme emotions are proof of philosophical purity, there is a place for milder emotions. That place may be in our conversation about Article II, as we consider putting “Love at the center.”

Liberating Love
"My hands are strong enough, they're strong enough and I'm good enough, my hands are strong enough to give love"

New Masking Guide
In the spirit of our covenant of love and helping one another, and in light of the increasing COVID, flu, and RSV transmission rates, we request that — unless you really can’t — you wear a mask during services and gatherings so that we can all keep one another healthy. Events involving the serving of food are postponed until the Spring.
Approved by the Board
The CDC now has a useful Covid-19 wastewater dashboard.

Last week a friend sounded awful on the phone. He told me that over the holidays he got Covid. Then RSV. Then the flu.
On my drive in on Sunday morning, I thought about him and the many people in our congregation who’d been sick over the same period. It seemed like the lion’s share of us had gotten one or more virus, and I suddenly got anxious, thinking “what if this morning’s service is a super spreader event?” READ MORE

From the UUA on Article II
The final revision of the proposed new Article II of UUA Bylaws was made available to UUs in November and some congregations have already drafted proposed amendments. For these amendments to be submitted to the Board of Trustees, they must have the endorsement of 15 certified member congregations. Consider reviewing and offering your congregation’s support for one of these amendments. The deadline for submitting new amendments is February 1, 2024. Submitted by Rev. Denis

Bring your donations to the bin in the foyer of UUCSC and we will deliver them or you can drop them off at PDC in the side door to the office. It is helpful if clothing is in bags, not too heavy.

Afghan Initiative in South County
Supports Education for Afghan Girls
When America pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021, 14 of the 140 college-educated young women who were evacuated landed at Brown University to complete their undergraduate degrees. Khadija Nazari, who told her story at UUCSC in March 2022, was one of those girls. I met Khadija soon after she had arrived and helped her assimilate. I and others in South County have supported her underground Afghan school, Bale Parvaaz, by fundraising and mentoring Afghan girls by phone. Please READ MORE HERE to learn about Bale Parvaaz and show concern for the girls whose only promise to rise out of poverty is an education.
