Ahhh… summer – those lazy, hazy, crazy days. Remember as a kid looking forward to getting out of school and jumping headfirst into the summer? While I am hugely grateful to now live in Rhode Island, where summer means kayaking and swimming (my first dunk at Narragansett was July 6), summer also means mowing, weeding, pruning, making pesto, installing air conditioners in my small hot and humid house…. And, this year summer means catching up to my new role as congregational president and working part-time for Courageous Rhode Island, the URI grant-funded media literacy program.
While my summer days may well be hazy and crazy, there is nothing particularly lazy about them. I struggle with my Type A personality to find the right balance between fun and relaxation and tackling all the projects and tasks which can so easily take over if I let them. Some of you may be able to relate. Many of you might be busy entertaining friends and family that want to visit you – and the ocean!
One of the recent fun activities was the Wakefield PRIDE event. Several UU’ers, including Rev Denis, showed up on a very, very hot and humid afternoon, in our tie- dyed t-shirts to staff the UUCSC table. Two new people signed up to receive more information. It seems that when we’re out and about and visible, people see what a fantastic community we have and are drawn to us.
Speaking of fun, I am so grateful for all the hosts of the Dining for Dollars+
activities. I look forward to my events coming up this month and next.
And remember to check out the activities for all ages that Lee and the RE team
have organized.
Finally, SAVE THE DATE to kayak: Tuesday, July 25, 9:00am meet at Salt Pond public boat ramp next to Java Madness. Unfortunately, I don’t have any extra kayaks to offer. Let’s spend time together on the water.
Wishing you fun!
Nancy
