UUA General Assembly Sunday Worship Service

Pre-recorded on June 23

Weaving Our Lives

We are all tangled up together in a great web of life that is woven with beauty and hardship, love and loss, thriving and struggle. How do we tend well to the weaving so that all of us are held in care? Join us this Sunday as we watch the Sunday Worship Service from the UUA General Assembly 2024. Rev. Dr. Molly Housh Gordon, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbia, MO, leads the service with songs performed by choirs from several UU churches and fellowships.

The Share the Plate recipient for June will be the Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation,  founded in 2017. Their mission is raising health with LGBTQ+ and HIV communities in Western Pennsylvania by addressing the Centers for Disease Control's Social Determinants of Health. They offer a variety of services and resources to their communities, as well as expert training for organizations to improve their capacity to serve LGBTQ+ clients and staff.

COMPASSIONATE SERVICE TEAM

Pleasant Valley Men's Shelter Dinners

Did you know? The Compassionate Service Team coordinates three meals a year for the Northside Common Ministries Men's Shelter. Each meal needs an organizer, 4-5 food providers, and 2-3 servers. The next dinner is scheduled for Saturday, July 6th, and we could still use another server, and a couple more side dish donations.

If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to compassion@uucnh.org.

NHCO Back-to-School Supplies Collection!

Even though the kids just got out of school, NHCO is already collecting NEW school supplies for children in need! Please see the flyer for especially needed items.

Please leave any donations in the blue bin next to the food pantry in Friendship Hall. This collection will continue until August 3rd.

Thanks from the Compassionate Service Team! compassion@uucnh.org

SEEKING OWL FACILITATORS! CHILDREN AND YOUTH FAITH DEVELOPMENT TEAM

We are working to restart our OWL program, and are looking for folks willing to be facilitators, particularly at the middle and high school grade levels. We are especially interested in having a male-identifying facilitator, but we will consider everyone! If you are potentially interested, PLEASE contact Abby Vaughn or Dawn Lindsay at cyfdteam@uucnh.org. Sunnyhill (South Hills UU) is having an in-person training in August, but online trainings are also available.

If you register before June 30, UUCNH will cover the training fees! (We may be able to do that after June 30th, but that is not guaranteed.)

ACTIONS NEEDED

  • HB 1776 - Establishing an Independent Redistricting Commission will finally end gerrymandering in our state if passed. Please contact and urge your PA House Representative to co-sponsor HB 1776 and your State Senator to co-sponsor the Senate version, SB 1076.
  • HB 1842-Community Solar & HB 1032-Solar on Schools - Climate Lobby Day occurred on June 6 at which time we met with our legislators to discuss a number of climate bills, including the aforementioned two bills, which have passed the House and are in the Senate for consideration. Please urge your State Senator to support these two bills that would help more Pennsylvanians access solar (renewable) energy to lower pollution, clean up our air, support energy independence and help people save money on their energy bills.
