Our Plant Sale Needs Volunteers! UUCF'S Beloved Gardens Plant Sale is coming up on Sat, April 27. This is a fund-raiser and a great opportunity for the congregation and visitors to obtain Natives, Perennials, Herb, Veggies and Flowers at remarkably low prices! We need VOLUNTEERS to make it happen! Some to help Set-Up on Wed and Thurs, April 24/25. Some to sort and move plants on Thurs and Fri, April 25/26. UUCF's Beloved Gardens' Plant Sale (April 27) needs many tables for our hundreds of plants. 6-footers are best, but 4-footers are also fine, and even card tables or other, different sizes. Our Religious Education Director, Melissa Rosenberger, MSW, resigned from her position this week, effective May 19. In her resignation letter, Melissa explained that it had become to balance all her responsibilities as a social worker, mom and to UUCF. Rev. Carl will begin a search soon.

Two UUCF Job Openings: American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter: (1) ASL Interpreter for the weekly Sunday Service and reception afterward, 10am-Noon. Each week in advance, we will provide as much as possible of the spoken words and lyrics to music. (2) ASL Interpreter for weekly Sunday Children's Religious Education (R.E.) and reception afterward. Pay: $50/hour with two hour minimum. Requirements: Certification or proof of proficiency. Apply: Email a letter of interest, a recent video of you interpreting (if available), and a resume with three references to minister@frederickuu.org. The Bullis Family: Tim Bullis is at Frederick Health Hospital with some issues related to his lungs and heart they are working to diagnose and treat. There are three potential ways to help:



1. Meals: The Meal Train sign-up for his wife and two children is available at mealtrain.com/trains/8rml84. Please feel free to buy pre-prepared food, make a home-cooked meal, or buy a gift card so they can have food delivered. (If you choose delivery, please still select a date and put in "gift card" or "door dash," so we know that meal is covered.)

2. Visit Tim in Hospital: John Hopkins Hospital, 1800 Orleans St, Zyad West-Brain Rescue Unit, Room 7. Visiting hours are 8am-8pm. To coordinate more specific visiting times, email Nicole Ramey at lylidaoc@gmail.com 

3. Help with their kids: Elsie (she/her pronouns, 8th grade) and Willow (they/them pronouns, 5th grade) may need some rides from Thurmont to various events this week — and/or it could help if there are some things your family may be doing that you could include them on to help them have a good spring break this week since they are off school. Frederick Covenant of UU Pagans April Classes & Activities:

Chair and Accessible Yoga: Wednesdays at 11 AM At the UUCF with Renee

Join us Wednesdays at 11am for chair and adaptive yoga that is truly accessible to every body. Open to teens and adults that are looking to grow a yoga and meditation practice but find traditional classes uncomfortable or out of reach. Variations will be offered from a chair to allow you to gain the most from your practice. This is a great class for those recovering from an injury or seeking to improve balance, strength and flexibility. Some blocks, straps and mats will be provided, but please bring your own if you have them. Renee is certified in adaptive and trauma informed yoga and has completed her 500hr CYT certification. Join Ron Padrón of White Rose Witching in a letter writing party as part of VoteForward’s Week of Action, writing letters to underrepresented voters encouraging them to register and make a plan to vote. All supplies will be provided, all you need to do is show up and write a few letters! You are encouraged to bring anything that symbolizes a deity or spirit of justice or civic duty to add to the community altar so we can channel their guidance and wisdom into our letters. What Is Remembered, Lives: Archiving Your Queer History Saturday, April 13th, 4 PM

At the UUCF The history of LGBTQ+ people is often erased, hidden, or overlooked. Looking for our queer ancestors in the historical record requires overcoming several obstacles, often looking for what is not said or recorded. Join Ron Padrón and Joe Sherren for a workshop discussing the challenges in researching queer history, and how you can help future generations of researchers by preserving your own personal histories. Participants will learn about academic, practical, and technical resources to ensure our community is remembered. Donations are appreciated, but never required. Blackfeather Mystery School: Magpie Training Third Thursday of the month, 7 PM

At the UUCF Magpie Training, the first level of Blackfeather Mystery School, offers a foundational, full-spectrum training in Empowered Witchcraft developed by mystic witch Irene Glasse and spiritworker Caine Dreamwalker. This training is focused specifically on reducing self-sabotage while providing a solid grounding in magickal theory, dedicant practices, mysticism, ritual structure and performance, spellcasting, beginning spiritwork and journeywork, and more. All participants will need a copy of “Blackfeather Mystery School: The Magpie Training.” This course can be taken as a complete path of study as well as individual sessions on a drop-in basis. Three young men were lynched in Frederick: James Carroll (1879), John Biggus (1887) and James Bowens (1895). No justice was sought, and no justice was offered at that time or for the next 100+ years.

On April 13 at 10am

the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission will hold a public hearing in Frederick, MD in pursuit of

its goal of bringing to light the stories surrounding the legacy of lynching in Maryland.

In 2019, the Maryland General Assembly enacted, and Governor Larry Hogan signed into law, legislation establishing the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission (MLTRC). Sponsored by Delegate Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk, House Bill 307 tasks the

Commission with researching cases of lynching, holding public hearings in communities where racial terror lynchings took place and developing recommendations for addressing the legacy of lynching that are rooted in restorative justice.

You are invited to the upcoming Voter Mobilization Organizing School: Saturday, April 27 from 10:00am-3:00pm at All Souls Church in collaboration with the Reeb Project for Voting Rights of All Souls Church and UUs for Social Justice (UUSJ). If you plan to attend, email Rev. Organizing School is a chance to gather in person for spiritual grounding, relationship building, and concrete skills training–all towards the goal of engaging as many people as possible in the 2024 election! 

Refreshments and tours will be offered from 3:00-4:00 PM as part of our 100th Anniversary weekend. And if that’s not enough, from 4:00-5:30 PM there will be a free concert featuring choir members from all DMV-area UU congregations, following a day-long singing workshop! We’ll provide recommendations for area restaurants to visit afterwards, so you can make a day of it if you like!

Registration is on a sliding scale from $0 to $50, with $25 being the standard fee.
