Opportunity for Good:
Let us rejoice and enjoy a short but well-deserved pause. Many of us have written letters, made phone calls, or canvassed for local, state, or national candidates and issues. Now, beginning January 20, 2021, we can anticipate a compassionate, science-driven, unifying administration. Of course, there remains much work to be done. At the local level, many people continue to struggle from the pandemic and from years of destructive national action and inaction. At the national level, in Georgia there are still two runoff elections for senators; by working on their behalf, we are working to transform the US Senate.
Our Next Service on November 15th:
Touchstones Theme for November,
Spirituality:
Spirituality can be found anywhere, easily. If one connects on a soulful level, it can even be touched. Join us on November 15th as Laurel Frishman shares her spiritual connection to Nature, her higher power, and our 7th Principle. Her inspiring talk is entitled “I, In Awesome Wonder.”

Laurel Frishman is a newly minted retiree! After 32 years as a Project Manager at Apple, Laurel is excited to move on to other adventures. Her initial plans momentarily sidelined by the pandemic, Laurel currently pursues various covid-compatible interests: UUCC, coastal cleanup, genealogy, hiking, and gardening. (With a degree in Zoology, her interests have always been of a biological and scientific nature, and with a specific interest in Environmental Sciences and Ecology.) When the time is right, she plans to resume her other interests: traveling, visiting with friends, going to movies, and attending Stanford Women’s Basketball games. In El Granada since 2012, Laurel is one of UUCC's founders.

Food for Our Souls:
Following 1st Sunday Service:
On Sunday, December 6th, Kai Marks returns to UUCC to talk about "In a World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind." While most of us would likely consider ourselves to be kind people, most of us would likely also agree that the world we live in is not one where kindness always prevails. Even though we know we need kindness, we can also recognize that there are times when kindness does not come naturally. We have to choose it and practice it. And choosing kindness is one of the most powerful things we can do, because acts of kindness are catalysts for positive change, for healing, and even for miracles. Join us as we explore the power of choosing kindness—because even the smallest act of kindness has the power to transform our life and the lives of others. Music will be provided by pianist Tom Devine and vocalist LindaGrace Frost.
Thank you!
UUCC has crossed off another milestone in our journey with our first YouTube upload! The journey began with Betsy Warren creating UUCC's YouTube banner in April and Rob Carey setting up our channel. And Bruce Rafnel has been recording and editing every UUCC zoom service. Now our first public video is last Sunday's service with Clovice Lewis, Jr., and his November 1st sermon "Spirituality for Unitarian Universalists." Please take a moment to watch, subscribe, and share with family and friends. Currently we have only 8 subscribers, but If we surpass 100 subscribers, we can create a custom channel link. Such custom channels help others discover us in on-line searches.
Photos Needed for Holiday Slideshow
We're hoping to create a special slideshow for our holiday fundraising concert on December 20th. Please send in photos celebrating your favorite holiday traditions: whether baking cookies, lighting candles, burning yule logs, wrapping gifts, singing songs, gathering with family and friends, decorating trees, dancing or storytelling. Let's celebrate the many ways we UUs spend the holidays and honor our diversity. Please send photos before December 12th to uucoastside@gmail.com.
Joys & Concerns:
One of the ways we weave community is by sharing aspects of our lives with each other, our joys and concerns. For our upcoming service, please email your Joys & Concerns to uucoastside@gmail.com.
Compassionate Caring Committee:
The UUCC Compassionate Caring Committee volunteers are often able to support our members during life events such as post-operative, illness, or can’t go out. Do you need food delivery or an errand run? Are you feeling loneliness, loss, or grief that a call might help?

Please contact uucoastside@gmail.com if you’d like support or if you want to volunteer.
