Join us at the 2018 State of the Chapter & Social on January 9th as we kick off programming for the year! This FREE event - open to members and non-members - is one of the highlights of our year.
- Meet Chapter members and connect with representatives from the board of directors and committees.
- Learn about highlights from the past year and plans for the upcoming year.
- Celebrate the accomplishments of our amazing volunteers.

This year's event will be held in Saint Louis University's newest residence hall, Grand Hall, located on the corner of Grand and Laclede. The building has various sustainable features, including a white roof to combat Urban Heat Island Effect, LED lighting for all major areas, low VOC products for paints, sealants, adhsives, and flooring systems, and a food pulper to increase the density of food waste that can be composted!

| In Memory of Tim Montgomery |

 It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of Timothy
Montgomery.
Tim was a longtime advocate for green building. He designed many sustainable buildings, including the LEED Platinum home of the William A. Kerr Foundation. He was active with the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter, serving on the Board of Directors, Technical Committee, and Speakers Bureau.
Tim will be missed by the green building community, and our thoughts are with his family. An obituary is available online here.

 A LEED Green Associate credential is a great way for you to distinguish yourself from other professionals! Passing the Green Associate exam will allow you to market your knowledge of the preeminent standards in the green building industry, and it is the first step to becoming a LEED professional.
This all-day exam prep course will cover LEED v4 Core Concepts, as well as each of the main categories for building accreditation. In addition, the prep course will include test taking tips and a practice exam. After completion, participants will receive access to an online exam simulator to assist with continued exam preparation.
This is a great certification for professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice. This credential attests to basic knowledge of green design, construction, and operations.

| City Energy Project wins 2017 East-West Gateway Oustanding Local Government Achievement Award |

City Energy Project - City of St. Louis
In January 2017, the City of St. Louis passed a Building Energy Awareness ordinance that required municipal, institutional, commercial and multifamily residential buildings that met specific requirements to track and report their energy and water usage on an annual basis. To implement this policy, the City of St. Louis secured funding from the City Energy Project, a national initiative to promote energy efficiency in buildings, and hired a technical advisor to assist the city's building division with enforcing the ordinance.
Working closely with the U.S. Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter, the city has also formed a benchmarking implementation advisory group that brings together stakeholders from the major utilities, trade groups, real estate professionals, nonprofits, unions and energy efficiency firms. This collaborative approach is key to the City Energy Project's success in maintaining and improving St. Louis' historic housing stock while pursuing energy and cost savings for the city and other building owners. In addition, the City Energy Project has kept equity and public health benefits at the forefront and is dedicated to making decisions that ensure minority- and women-owned firms and residents benefit from this energy efficiency initiative. The City Energy Project is set to have a lasting impact by making St. Louis a better place for generations to
come while setting a standard for sustainability that can be a model for other cities in the region.

East-West Gateway Council of Governments' Outstanding Local Government Achievement awards honor the extraordinary work of individuals, municipal and county governments/departments, special purpose districts and public educational institutions in the city of St. Louis and Franklin, Jefferson, St. Charles and St. Louis counties in Missouri and Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties in Illinois. The awards seek to recognize individuals, projects, partnerships and jurisdictions that embody the best in local government. East-West Gateway solicits nominations from the community and winners are selected by a panel of experts from the public, private and academic sectors.

| 2018 Benchmark Trainings Announced |

On January 27, 2017, the City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen unanimously passed an energy benchmarking ordinance that requires municipal, institutional, commercial, and multifamily residential buildings who square footage is equal to or greater than 50,000 to track and report their energy and water usage annually to the City's Building Division. Privately owned buildings are required to benchmark and submit data by April 1, 2018 using the free, online tool ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manger.

| Emerging Professionals Continue Holiday Tradition - Weatherization with EnergyCare! |

 Saturday, December 16, 9 am - 12 pm
For the past several years, Emerging Professionals have spent a Saturday in December weatherizing homes with
EnergyCare.
This St. Louis area non profit works to protect low-income, homebound people- especially the elderly, and seriously ill or physically disabled adults and children - from illness, hospitalization or death from summer heat or winter cold.
During the winter season, EnergyCare service providers weatherize homes, and instruct residents about how to conserve both their financial resources and energy. Weatherization improves comfort, and reduces energy consumption and the associated energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
Volunteer will meet at EnergyCare's office for a brief training, then proceed to the weatherization site.

| Greenbuild 2018 Call for Proposals |

Planning for Greenbuild 2018 is already underway! Greenbuild 2018 will be held in Chicago November 14-16, 2018.
The Call for Session Proposals is now open! Greenbuild educational sessions will cover all aspects of sustainable design, construction and operations practices for buildings and communities, including their impact on people, the environment and the economy.
Priorities for Greenbuild 2018 include:
- Expert-level sessions: These sessions focus on detailed reviews of specific topics or work on cutting-edge issues.
- Immersive and experiential learning: Greenbuild aims to provide a breadth of educational opportunities for all learning styles and is seeking proposals that offer immersive learning experiences, including elements such as technology, deep reflection, play-based learning and active participation.
- Inspirational content: These sessions don't just provide information, they aim to inspire action and proposals will be reviewed based on whether or not they offer innovative or inspirational content to green building professionals
- Rating system-specific sessions: These sessions teach attendees about the current versions of the rating systems by providing specific, detailed information and guidance about the credit intents and requirements, supplemented with real-world experiences with the LEED, WELL, and SITES rating systems.
