Undergrad finds her voice through Feeding Tampa Bay

Originally from India, undergraduate student Husena Rajkotwala moved to the United States when she was four years old and grew up near Dade City, Fla. As she anticipates her graduation from the USF College of Public Health in the spring of 2025, Rajkotwala is balancing multiple roles in the name of service and health.

In new study, USF researchers connect Florida malaria outbreak with South and Central America

For people in the United States, an outbreak of malaria might seem exotic, a health issue in a remote or far-away part of the world. But malaria − an insidious, mosquito-borne disease carried by a parasite − knows no boundaries and refuses to leave the global stage. In fact, the deadly Plasmodium falciparum kills an estimated 600,000 people a year, 95 percent of them children under age 5.

Faculty effort yields new equipment for local fire department

Dr. Christine McGuire-Wolfe was awarded a $100,000 grant from FEMA for the Port Richey Fire Department. The funds were used to purchase a new mobile command unit/air truck and breathing apparatus, enhancing the department's response capabilities.

Dr. Russell Kirby honored with prestigious mentoring award

Dr. Russell Kirby has received the Society for Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiologic Research’s Mentoring Award.

COPH alumnus Jamilla Cooper returns to her roots

Born and raised on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, COPH alumna Jamilla Cooper moved to the United States specifically to attend USF.
