IN MEMORIAM OF FORMER DEAN ROBERT S. HARRIS

Robert S. Harris, FAIA, (1935–2023) architect, professor of architecture, civil leader and urbanist, passed away on October 3, 2023. Robert served as dean of the USC School of Architecture for ten years from 1981 to 1992, as well as director of the Master of Architecture Program (1993-2004) and director of the Master of Landscape Architecture Program (2006-2011, 2012-2014). 


USC ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS WORK ON COMMUNITY PLAN TO REVITALIZE ALLENSWORTH

A USC Architecture course topic for the semester - Allensworth Rising: An Agrarian Utopia of Black Possibility, led by Alison Hirsch, Director of Graduate Programs in Landscape Architecture + Urbanism, gave students a unique chance to build a Community Plan for Allensworth that would help to solidify the town’s path towards a resilient and thriving future.  


MASTER OF BUILDING SCIENCE STUDENTS WIN ARCHITECTURE@ZERO HONOR AWARD

Architecture@Zero announced its 2023 design competition winners of the Teaching and Innovation Farm Lab. Four students from the Chase L. Leavitt Graduate Building Science Program - Saba Raji, Manan Lakhani, Niyoshi Sanghrajka, and Selin Guner took the Honor Award in the Graduate Category for their design of an agriculture center and farmers’ housing in Allensworth, California.

AUSTIN NGUYEN WINS THE 2023 AIA CALIFORNIA URBAN DESIGN AWARD

Austin Nguyen, an undergraduate student at USC School of Architecture, has won the 2023 AIA California Urban Design Award in the Student Category for his project Fluicity. Fluicity presents a vision of what urban planning would look like in the near future, with a focus on sustainability and the absence of cars, when subways, buses and bikes would become the main methods of transport. 

ARCHITECTURAL GUILD MENTORSHIP PROGRAM KICKOFF

Mentorship is such an important part of the student experience at USC School of Architecture. This week, nearly 100 mentors came to campus to meet their student mentees and kick off the USC Architectural Guild Mentorship Program. Students are paired with professionals (USC alumni and non-alumni) throughout the architecture, landscape architecture, construction, and engineering industries who provide students with professional mentorship throughout the school year.

Join us on October 16 for the inaugural event of Crossing Design Borders, an annual speaker series launched by the USC School of Architecture in partnership with USC Visions and Voices, featuring distinguished architect and landscape architect Mark Rios, whose projects include Grand Park, The California Endowment, and Nokia Plaza at LA Live.
