Region1
US Adult Soccer Association - Region I

18 April 2013

The semifinals of the USASA Region I qualifiers of the US Open Cup will take place this Sunday with the winners moving forward as the region's entries to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.  Along with the Lamar Hunt, which starts on 14 May, the two finalist will meet on 16 June at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham, Pennsylvania to determine who will compete in the USASA National Cup Finals to contend for the Werner Fricker US Open Cup.

The two semifinals saw changes this past week as the NY Pancyprian Freedoms and the Screaming Eagles were disqualified due to the eligibility status of players who took part in the quarterfinals.  The Northern Division semifinal will feature Newtown Mens Soccer hosting Mass Premier Soccer at Newtown High School in Connecticut at 3:00.  The Southern Division sees the Dulles Sportsplex Aegean Hawks visiting Icon FC at Montville Community Park in Montville, New Jersey.  That match will kick off at 6:00.

More details can be found at the Region I US Open Cup schedule page.

The US Open Cup was first played in the 1913-1914 season when it was called the National Challenge Cup. The winners were awarded the Dewar Cup, donated by Sir Thomas Dewar in 1912 for the promotion of soccer in America. In 1999, USASA established the Werner Fricker US Open Cup to recognize the champion among its own participants.

Additional information can be found at the USASA Region I web site, including schedules, results and field directions.  The Region also administers the US Amateur Cup, the US Over-30 Cup and the US Under-23 Cup with the finals to be played at the Ukrainian American Sports Center on 16 June.  Along with the National Cups, USASA inaugurates the National Women's Championship that will take place at the Overland Park Soccer Complex in Kansas from 25 to 30 June. The popular USASA Veteran's Cup returns to Escondido, California and will be played between 25 to 30 June. USASA also will host several US Soccer Centennial tournaments for adult teams throughout the country in celebration of that important milestone.
