USA Bass is more than just a team of professional anglers. It is also a community of volunteers that welcomed a record 25 nations to participate in the 16th Bass World Championships on Lake Murray in Columbia, SC. These volunteers donated time, expertise and in some cases even opened their homes to the international field. The volunteerism started a few weeks before the event and is still on display today.
“We can’t thank the community around Lake Murray and across the nation enough” says event organizer John Knight. “The outpouring of support helped us produce a spectacular event for the sportfishing world. There are so many outstanding volunteers that we just humbly say a heartfelt – THANK YOU!”
Youth Day
Volunteers started contributing at the youth day celebration of fishing at Columbia Canal and River Front Park on Sunday, October 16th. Young anglers were instructed by members of USAngling, the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA), Certified Angling Instructors from the Scouts of America, and from international competitive anglers. The event included fishing education, a special visit from USA Bass coach Charlie Evans and PAW Patrol’s Skye and Marshall and fishing on the canal. Staff and volunteers from multiple local organizations came together to make the day a success from The City of Columbia Parks Department providing the perfect venue, to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources stocking the canal with fish, and host organization - Capital City/Lake Murray Country, Seahunt Boats and Alodia’s Cucina Italiana who provided hats and hot dogs to all the hungry anglers. Volunteers helped with photography, registration, teaching, fishing games and canal fishing. It was a great way to engage local youth and volunteers made it all happen.
