Snider Plaza Surface Improvements Project underway
On Monday, May 6, crews began Phase 1 of the onsite work in the 3400 block of Daniel, between the east and west alleys of Snider Plaza and in the 3400 block of Westminster, between Hillcrest and the west alley of Snider Plaza.

Both of these streets will be under construction concurrently, and detours will be in place. Phase 1 construction is expected to take three months. We have included a map below of Phase 1 closures.
Construction particulars/advisories:

  • Daniel and Westminster (between Hillcrest and Snider Plaza) closed to traffic 24/7 between Hillcrest & Hursey.
  • Westminster partially closed to traffic between Snider Plaza and Hursey (will not be in place for entirety of Phase I).
  • Hilltop Plaza Parking Garage and all Snider Plaza parking will remain open during this phase. The Daniel entrance and exits for the garage will be accessible from Dickens.
  • The recommended entrances to Snider Plaza are via Milton and Rankin.
  • At each street, construction will involve utility removal and replacement, pavement and sidewalk removal and replacement, electrical and drainage work, and closures with traffic detours.
  • When a street is closed for construction, there will be no vehicle access in that block until work is completed on that particular street section.
  • Sidewalk access will remain open for pedestrians to move through the area and for business access. There will be wayfinding signs in place, and a construction fence separating the work area from the sidewalk.
  • Throughout construction, please adhere to all barricades, fences, and signage.
  • Construction areas will sometimes be marked by paint on the sidewalk and in-ground construction stakes, please do not disturb them.

City conducting resident satisfation survey
The City of University Park is working with survey research firm ETC institute to gather resident input and feedback on City programs and services. Resident feedback is extremely valuable to the city and allows us to provide you and your neighbors with the services that are most wanted. The survey will start hitting mailboxes soon, so be on the lookout!

Please note that not all residents are asked complete the survey due to random sampling. If you have any questions about the survey or need help with submission, please contact Paige Ruedy, Community Information Officer, at 214-987-5686 or pruedy@uptexas.org.

Citizen of the Year search continues
Time is running out to nominate a resident for 2024 Citizen of the Year! The City is accepting applications for the Citizen of the Year Award through Saturday, June 1.

The City Council created the award to boost public awareness and appreciation for the many residents who work, often behind the scenes, to better the city's quality of life. Rather than acting out of a need for recognition, these residents are driven by a desire to contribute to their community. Whether beautifying our neighborhoods, increasing local opportunities for our youth or raising money for various worthy projects, all demonstrate an exceptional level of citizenship.

To nominate a resident of any age, click on the green button below. A panel of residents will select and notify the honoree the week of June 3. The honoree will receive a plaque and a special Citizen of the Year gift from the Mayor.

Nominees for Citizen of the Year must:

  • Be a University Park resident;
  • Have worked to improve the quality of life in University Park.

Current and former Mayors and Councilmembers are not eligible for this award. If you have questions about the nomination process, please call Paige Ruedy at 214-987-5686 or send her an email.

Recent Citizen of the Year honorees:

2023 - Brad Cheves
2022 - Melissa Rieman
2021 - Dan Branch
