UNLV IT Pipeline Program Recognized at Governor’s Office STEM Event


In programming and technology, most professionals started as curious people who had somebody to feed that curiosity or inspire them to do something. Jimmy Jacobson, the chief technology officer for remote software development company Codingscape, now helps to feed that curiosity for students in the IT Workforce Talent Pipeline Program – a yearlong program funded through the Governor’s Office of Science Information and Technology (OSIT) – that gives Nevada high school juniors and seniors...(more)

Update: UNLV Federal Appropriations Requests


In a significant boost to our research and development capabilities, UNLV received $5.38 million in federal funding for Fiscal Year 2024. These funds will be allocated to critical projects that will enhance the universities technological infrastructure and education resources, as follows:

  • Nursing Simulation: With an allocation of $400,000 the Nursing Simulation program will receive a substantial upgrade. This funding will allow the acquisition of state-of-the-art simulation equipment, providing nursing students with hands-on training in a controlled, realistic environment…(more)

A Rebel "Thank You" to Our Nevada Delegation!


UNLV extends a heartfelt Rebel “thank you” to Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, Congresswomen Dina Titus and Susie Lee, and Congressman Steven Horsford for their support of the university’s Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations Requests! Their support was instrumental in our success, and will go far to enhance and expand the university’s research capabilities and related opportunities for faculty and students. Moreover, their support ensures UNLV is able to continue to leverage its resources for the benefit of our state, our nation, and beyond. We are very grateful for their efforts to ensure vital programs were funded in Fiscal Year 2024, and we look forward to working together to achieve similar results in Fiscal Year 2025! 

Preparing for Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations


As the FY26 appropriations process approaches, the university is gearing up to submit new requests for federal funding to support its ambitious research and educational initiatives. The general timeline for the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process can be found on our website.

Proposals will build on the university’s strengths in research, technology, and education, ensuring continued growth and innovation. Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the proposal development process, providing insights and expertise to strengthen the university’s submissions. Questions regarding the university’s Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Requests and related processes should be directed to Jason Wasden, Director of Federal Government Engagement in the UNLV Office of Government and Community Engagement.

5/3/24 – The Nevada State Treasurer's Office hosted their annual Women + Money Financial Summit which included a panel discussion, Empowering Community Advocates: Strengthening Outreach, moderated by Director of Special Projects for the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development, Dorian Stonebarger. Panelists included: Amy Stephenson, Director of the Governor's Office of Finance; Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Nevada Department of Education; Brooke Malone, Vice President of Investor Relations for the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance; and Dr. Constance Brooks, Vice President of Government and Community Engagement at UNLV. 

5/7/24- The Clark County Commission designated the day “UNLV Lady Rebels Day” to honor the team for being the first team in the Mountain West Conference to win the regular season and tournament championship three years in a row, and going 30-3 last season. 

The Nevada Legislature Interim Committees


The 20-month period between the Nevada Legislature’s biennially sessions is referred to as the "interim." During this time, interim committees created by the Legislature work on issues that arise between sessions. Learn more on the Interim Committees website. 5/13/24, Joint Interim Standing Committee on Health and Human Services – Dr. Sara Hunt, Executive Director of BeHERE Nevada and Director of the UNLV Mental and Behavioral Health Training Coalition, provided an update to the Committee regarding the establishment of the Behavioral Health Workforce Development Center of Nevada (BeHERE NV) stemming from AB 37 (2023).

5/29/24, Joint Interim Standing Committee on Growth and Infrastructure - UNLV’s Vice President of Research, David Hatchett, made a presentation to the Committee regarding the education and research aspects of hydrogen production. He was joined by Scott Kelley, Associate Professor in UNR’s Department of Geography, and Sean McKenna, DRI’s Executive Director of the Division of Hydrologic Sciences.  

5/31/24, Joint Interim Standing Committee on the Judiciary – Dean of UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law, Leah Grinvald, presented an overview of the School’s work as it celebrates 25-years of serving students and all Nevadans. Dean Grinvald's presentation focused on the Law School's impact relative to workforce development, community outreach, and partnerships with the Nevada State Legislature. 

5/31/24, Joint Interim Standing Committee on the Judiciary Deborah Kuhls, Associate Dean for Research, and Bertille Mavegam Tango Assoumou, Traffic Safety Research Project Manager with the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, were joined by William Sousa, Director of UNLV’s Center for Crime and Justice Policy, to present findings from the Statistical Transparency of Policing (STOP) Project, resulting from SB 236 (2021)

2024 -2025 Season


The Nevada Conservatory Theatre announced its 2024-25 season. Black Mountain Institute Opens Applications for Community Partnership Support


Through June 30th, the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute (BMI) is accepting proposals to partner with local arts groups and organizations on community-driven programs. Selected proposals will receive funding in an amount of up to $1,500. BMI will consider proposals that reflect one or more priorities in the BMI mission statement and serve audiences in Las Vegas or Southern Nevada...(more)

Research Participation Opportunity - Examining Challenges with Gambling Problems for US Military


UNLV’s Behavioral Addictions Lab is currently conducting a qualitative study to gain a deeper understanding into the barriers and facilitators of military personnel accessing treatment for gambling disorder. BeHERE NV is Here for Nevada


The acronym says it all. BeHERE NV stands for Behavioral Health Education, Retention, and Expansion Network of Nevada. Several years in the making, this program’s lofty name is also clearly communicating its lofty goals. What exactly is BeHERE NV? UNLV’s Tribal Trifecta: Gaming, Governance, Hospitality


Makai Zuniga, a member of the Northern Paiute, was born to teenaged parents and raised in the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. In spring 2018, he dropped out of college, worked minor gigs in music video production in Los Angeles, and when he ran out of money, got a job assembling car batteries at the Tesla factory near Reno. 5/4/24 - UNLV Accounting teamed up with Get Outdoors Nevada last weekend for a day of service with a local park clean-up. Our faculty, students, and Advisory Board members had fun socializing while working together to improve our local community.

5/4/24 - UNLV Football, in partnership with the Nevada Youth Network and Chef's for Kids, volunteered alongside chefs, educators, donors, and organizations to help cook and serve meals for area youth.

5/10/24 - UNLV President Keith Whitfield discusses what the university has been like following a shooting on campus, and shares details on the Rebel Recovery Program and how the university is addressing campus safety and mental health.

5/13/24 - The NFL Las Vegas Raiders recently announced that the The David Perrico Pop Strings Orchestra, a 19-piece, all-star ensemble conducted by David Perrico (MM in Jazz Performance and Composition, '06), has signed-on for two more years as the Raiders House Band. 

5/22/24 - Nancy Lough, UNLV Sports Innovation Institute, was featured in the City Cast Las Vegas podcast. In this episode she does a deep dive into the complexities of endorsements, sponsorships, pay-to-play in pro sports, and how we can get to pay parity for women's sports.

05/24 - UNLV Collegiate DECA chapter students won multiple awards and were recognized for leadership in Austin, TX. The organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.

Donation to College of Education - Accelerating Access to Autism Care


Early detection and treatment of autism can have invaluable lifelong effects.
