Message from the Chair

Congratulations to all who were involved in our Scribe Fellowship. I attended last night’s graduation and heard the impact of the fellowship on these future physicians (their stories will be shared in Family Medicine Moments). The results are impressive: out of 14 scribes, 5 are coming to UMass Chan, one each to UNE, Chicago, and Tufts schools of medicine (8 URIM future physicians!) with several more traveling along the path; one aspiring PA, one aspiring dentist, and one MPH! My thanks to all who were involved in starting the fellowship and its success, especially Dan Lasser, Linda Cragin, Steve Earls for their leadership, and to all the attendings who helped make the experience so valuable for the fellows. See below for more details.

Scribe Fellowship

Thanks to all who were involved in the Scribe Fellowship referenced in the Message from the Chair. In addition to Dan Lasser and Steve Earls, thanks to the pioneering physicians in year one, who never had scribes and accepted scribes with no training, Drs. Liz Erban, Dennis Dimitri, Fred Baker, Frank Domino and Christina Kim. In years two and three, with training from Scribe America, thank you to the provider and administrative teams at Benedict, Hahnemann, and Barre – there are too many names to list here – each of you had an important role in educating and mentoring these future health care professionals. Thanks also to the faculty who provided Monday evening academic enrichment sessions, including Mike Ennis, Katie Barry, Jennifer Bradford, Philip Day, Lisa Morris, Ashley Hall, HeatherLyn Haley, and Suzanne Cashman. Thanks also to the partnership with the Office of Admissions and Tracy Kedian and to Steve Anderson for his support.

Mark Skiba, MD, will be graduating this month from the Palliative Care Fellowship and headed back to Milford Hospital where he has practiced for decades. He will return as a hospitalist and incorporate his palliative care training into his patient care.
