Message From the Chair

It is with great sadness that I share today’s update about Jim Ledwith. Many of us have been following his ups and downs since his biking accident two weeks ago. Unfortunately, Jim took a turn for the worse over the weekend, with another bleed, and unsuccessful emergency neurosurgery. As of this morning, we are informed that his brain herniated and he has been declared brain dead. His family is gathering, and planning is underway for organ donation soon.

I will not summarize his many accomplishments here as a clinician, teacher, mentor and scholar. We will find an appropriate time to honor his legacy and come together to celebrate him. For the moment, I am focusing on his gentleness, his wisdom, and his kindness. It is beyond tragic that we will not have more time with him, but I am grateful that I had the privilege of knowing him. His family is in the midst of an extremely devastating loss and our thoughts are with them.

As a reminder, you can connect with his family via his CaringBridge site (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jimledwith) or his Arizona address below:

In addition to our new interns and fellow, we have a few new residents joining from other programs:

  • Niloufar Tabib, DO, PGY-2 joined WFMR at Hahnemann FHC on 7/1, coming to us from Middlesex Family Medicine Residency in CT.
  • Maryam Zubair, MD, PGY-2 is officially joining WFMR at Barre FHC on 7/15, coming to us from the Wright Center FMR in Pennsylvania. Her program is closing in another year which prompted her search for a new program
  • Anusmriti Guragain, MD, PGY-1 is joining WFMR at Queen Street on 9/15, coming to us because her matched program in Seattle has closed.

BH Fellowship:

Goodbye to Allie Mann, PsyD who will be leaving the fellowship July 12, 2024 and joining the faculty at the University of VA in Charlottesville VA. Thank you for all the care and teaching you have provided to our patients and learners, and we wish you well in your future endeavors!

UME:

The third year clerkship students started returning for their second week of family medicine on June 24th and will continue over the next 12 weeks. Ask them what other clerkships they have done in the mean time- they should be more experienced and wiser third year medical students! Thank you for welcoming them back! There are quite a few who delayed the start of third year to study for Step 1 NBME exam. So you will see some new faces who are just starting family medicine as well.
