Upcoming Research Meeting

We’re hoping to establish a regular, quarterly schedule of

in-person meetings for the upcoming academic year. Please save the date for the next in-person gathering for FMCH researchers on Friday, September 13th from 9am-12pm noon. Looking forward to seeing you there.

IRB News

We encourage you to review the July 2024 update from Alison Blodgett, Director of IRB Operations. It reads, in part:

  • IRB staff are working hard on the backlog of submissions, as well as the 200 new submissions, since January 2024. We are pausing our educational efforts through the summer to focus on reviewing and have engaged additional faculty and research staff to conduct reviews.
  • Importantly, we are prioritizing projects for review. For new studies, the IRB is prioritizing NIH just-in-time requests, studies that are greater than minimal risk, studies that list external support in the Study Funding Sources field at time of submission, and exempt studies. Unfunded studies are being reviewed as IRB resources permit. As a result, it is not possible for the IRB to provide an estimated review time for unfunded studies. We recognize that this may be a particular hardship for students, residents, fellows, and faculty, and encourage you to build extra time, especially into unfunded projects, to accommodate IRB review times.

Give Family Medicine a powerful voice! Participate in the medical school interview process to select the next generation. Multiple-Mini Interviews are 90 minute sessions done remotely using zoom. Each interviewer is assigned a brief “scenario” with a few follow-up questions and spends 8 minutes with 8 applicants. There is no preparation and a quick, 5 question, on-line form is completed about each encounter. Sessions are timed to have limited impact upon our daily schedules starting at 8:30 AM or 4:00 PM. You sign up for whatever number of sessions works for you. The training is at your convenience using a 30-minute, online module. This is a wonderful way to perform academic service.
