Celebrating Success of the Class of 2024 at the Dean’s Dinner
The annual Dean's Dinner is happening tomorrow—an occasion of celebration and camaraderie for the graduates in the Class of 2024. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, and classmates while reflecting on their achievements.
McMaster is honoured to welcome alumna Dr. Sonia Anand, who will share her journey from student to successful medical professional, providing invaluable insights into the medical field.
Attendees are encouraged to inspire the incoming MacMed Class by submitting their own White Coat note at the dinner, however you can still submit one digitally in advance. These words of encouragement, advice, and personal anecdotes will guide and uplift the next generation of medical students, fostering a culture of support and camaraderie.

Celebrating Match Day Success at McMaster University
McMaster University's Class of 2024 achieved a remarkable 93% match rate, with 25% of graduating McMaster students entering Family Medicine. While McMaster students have been matched to residencies across the country, 36% of Class of 2024 students will be completing their post-graduate training at McMaster University.
The Student Affairs team ensures unmatched students receive comprehensive support. Before Match Day, opted-in students received notifications if unmatched, early communication about available assistance, and were connected with personalized support teams that offered dedicated guidance. On Match Day, a collaborative effort from Student Affairs, UGME, and PGME leadership provided unmatched students with support, advice, and access to wellness services. Continuous support extends beyond Match Day, with ongoing resources and counseling available.

Join MacEssentials Tutor Training
The UGME program invites faculty members interested in tutoring to join the MacEssentials Tutor Training Program. Training begins with self-paced e-modules and culminates with a complementary 1.5-hour live virtual workshop on June 12, 2024, at 6 pm. Develop your tutoring skills and earn educational credits. After completion, faculty members are eligible to start tutoring as early as August 2024. For further details and registration, click here.

IF Tutor Recruitment for Fall 2024
Are you passionate about medical education? The UGME is seeking tutors for its Integration Foundations (IF) program, running from August 26 to November 15, 2024. IF covers sub-units including Host Defense & Neoplasia, Complexity & Chronicity, and Aging & Maternal Health. Tutorials are in person, held twice a week for 3-hour sessions, either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday afternoons or evenings (between 1-9 pm). Preparation time varies but you will find significant support and resources through the MF manual, Medportal, and our curriculum team.

NRC Tutor and Preceptor Recruitment for 2024-2025 Academic Year
Niagara Regional Campus invites you to become a Clinical Skills Preceptor or Tutor for the Class of 2027 (2024-2025 Academic Year). Complete the survey or email NRCprec@mcmaster.ca for inquiries. Preceptors lead Clinical Skills Sessions once a week, per foundation, lasting 2-3 hours in the afternoons or evenings (usually Wednesdays). Tutors conduct Tutorial Sessions twice a week, per foundation, with 3-hour sessions on a Mon/Thu or Tue/Fri rotation. Recruitment for Preceptors and Tutors for all Medical Foundations is ongoing throughout the year. Your interest is greatly appreciated!

Glamour Gals: Bringing Joy to Older Adults
UGME learners at WRC have launched a heartwarming initiative: Glamour Gals. Over a dozen medical students dedicate one Saturday monthly to pampering residents at a local Retirement Residence. Inspired by the GlamourGals Foundation, the McMaster medical chapter was founded by Harleen Chahal in August 2023. This initiative serves as a meaningful approach to alleviate older adult loneliness and contribute positively to the community, while also improving important skills to foster positive patient interactions. Since launching, Glamour Gals were featured on White Coat Black Art with Dr. Brian Goldman and the CBC. Follow their journey on their social media.

Class of 2024
The Student Affairs (SA) team was delighted to observe strong student turnouts at the two virtual interview tour preparation LGS sessions held at the end of December and early January. These sessions, led by SA, featured a diverse array of first-year Resident guest panelists who shared insights from their virtual tour experiences the previous year. Additionally, there was significant participation in the final virtual LGS for the Class of 2024 on Tuesday night, February 6th, titled "The Home Stretch." This session provided crucial information about rank-order list decisions and the procedures leading up to and following Match Day on March 19th.
The annual post-interview tour survey request has been distributed. The SA team extends gratitude to all who have completed the survey thus far and encourages those who haven't to take the time to do so. Your feedback is instrumental in supporting future classes and enhancing the Student Affairs programming.

Class of 2025
First-round Career Counseling virtual appointments, one per student and each scheduled for one hour, commence before the end of April and continue through mid-July. Student Affairs sent emails to all students regarding these appointments on Wednesday, April 10th. Students will complete a brief intake form beforehand and can anticipate that the session will use their responses in the form to drive discussion of various career-related topics. These topics may include their career journey thus far, progress in the specialty selection process, exploration of key values, initial planning for residency applications later in the year, and a review of their current CV.

Class of 2026
A variety of 30-minute career counseling appointments are available for booking online using the Jane app at any time. Students can connect with a career counselor to address various career-related inquiries during their first year. Topics may include career and specialty exploration, strategies for enhancing one's CV, effective networking as a medical student, and guidance on stream selection choices and pre-clerkship elective selection. Additionally, students are encouraged to review the updated Professional Development Resource Document (updated Nov. 2023). This document provides valuable information on specialty-specific and other society/association memberships available to medical students, as well as details on related events such as annual conferences and meetings.
