Euphemia Lofton Haynes, First Black Woman to Earn Ph.D. in Math, Elevated D.C. Academic Community

Paving the way for future students and education leaders, UDC alum Euphemia Lofton Haynes was the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Born Martha Euphemia Lofton on September 11, 1890, she grew up in Washington, D.C., and earned a degree in education from Miner Normal School in 1909. Five years later, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and, in 1930, attained a Master’s in Education from the University of Chicago. Read More

President Edington Inducted Into Business Honor Society

Earlier this month, Maurice D. Edington, Ph.D., was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honor society founded in 1913. The honor society is exclusively for AACSB-accredited schools, an achievement bestowed on fewer than 6 percent of the world’s business school programs—including the UDC School of Business and Public Administration.

UDC Van Ness Campus Farmers Market Returns for the Season

The UDC Van Ness Campus Farmers Market opens for the season on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of the Student Center. This community staple offers produce, baked goods and other farm fresh products from growers throughout the region. This initiative, brought to you by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences, or CAUSES, and the National Latino Farmers & Ranchers Trade Association, runs Saturdays through November 16.
