What initially sparked your interest in the field of government contracting, and how has that passion shaped your career path?
As the daughter of an active-duty Air Force officer, I grew up moving frequently, living in places like Upstate New York, North Dakota, Germany, Hawaii, and Seoul, South Korea. The Air Force was an integral part of my life from the start.
I discovered a deep passion for government contracting, which perfectly combines my interests in science and technology, serving our nation through the Air Force, and tackling complex problems.
Beyond the curriculum, can you share a unique teaching approach you plan to incorporate into your courses to engage students and enhance learning?
Storytelling is an excellent way to engage students and make the material more relatable—this includes encouraging students to share their own stories. By using these methods, we can draw students into discussions, provide deeper context to the learning objectives, and ultimately enhance their learning experience.
How will your courses translate theory into practice, giving students valuable real-world skills applicable to the government contracting industry?
By exploring how different elements can positively or negatively impact objectives, students will learn to navigate potential branches and sequels to achieve their desired outcomes. One of our projects will integrate multiple learning objectives and provide students with perspectives from various stakeholders—making it a fun and engaging way to learn!
Outside of your professional endeavors, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy in your spare time?
I have several different interests. I read a lot, mostly fiction, though I do enjoy some non-fiction as well. I also have a passion for gardening and am currently working to shift my garden towards more native plants and trees, with a few food items sprinkled in. Home improvement projects are another hobby of mine, and I always have something in motion. Last year, I removed a drop ceiling in our basement, and I am slowly finishing the other parts of it. Lastly, I spend a lot of time with my kids. I have 10-year-old twin boys who keep me busy with their sports activities and our family adventures.
