Recent news and announcements relating to neurologic subspecialty accreditation and certification

UCNS Welcomes New Leadership

The UCNS is pleased to announce the election of new officers and members to the Board of Directors.

 

Salvador Cruz-Flores, MD, MPH was elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the Board of the Board of Directors. Dr. Cruz-Flores has served on the Board since 2021 as a representative of the American Neurological Association and served as Vice Chair from 2022 - 2024. He is currently a Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Neurology at Texas Tech University at El Paso and is UCNS-certified in both Neurocritical Care and Neuroimaging.


Margie A. Ream, MD, PhD, representing the parent organization Child Neurology Educators Committee of the Child Neurology Society (CNS), was elected to serve a two-year term in the officer role of Vice Chair. Nancy Bass, MD, representing the parent organization CNS, was elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer from 2024-2026.

A sincere thank you to outgoing members Amaal Starling, MD, Mayo Clinic - Scottsdale (AAN), Clark Alan Anderson, MD, University of Colorado School of Medicine (Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry), and Angela Hays Shapshak, MD, University of Alabama at Birmingham (Neurocritical Care) whose terms concluded on April 30, 2024.

Neuroimaging Certification Exam Application Period Open

The application period for the 2024 UCNS Neuroimaging Certification Examination is now open. The examination will take place the week of February 3-7, 2025. The application deadline is August 1, 2024. The online application along with complete certification eligibility criteria and the examination content outline are available at www.ucns.org/NIcertification.


There are currently 156 physicians in the United States and Canada who hold the distinction of being UCNS certified in Neuroimaging. Autonomic Disorders Certification Exam Application Deadline Extended

There is still time to apply for the 2024 UCNS Autonomic Disorders Certification Examination. The application deadline has been extended to June 15th. Applications will be accepted between June 16-July 1 with an extended deadline application fee of $500.

Seeking Recent Subspecialty Research Articles for 2025 C-cert Reading List

The greater neurology community is invited to submit articles of clinical relevance and subspecialty importance for consideration for inclusion on the the annual subspecialty reading lists that are part of the UCNS continuous certification (C-cert) requirements for UCNS diplomates to maintain their certification. Articles submitted by June 30th will be considered for inclusion on subspecialty 2025 C-cert reading lists.


Articles must meet the submission criteria and article selection requirements for inclusion consideration on the annual C-cert reading lists. Articles are reviewed and selected by each of the subspecialty certification examination committees.

The 2023 UCNS Year-End Summary is now available at www.ucns.org/annualreports. The report provides the public with a comprehensive overview of the organization's 2023 activities, initiatives, and outcomes.

June 15: Deadline for Autonomic Disorders certification exam applications

July 1: Extended deadline for Autonomic Disorders certification exam applications ($500 fee applies)

June 19: UCNS office closed in recognition of Juneteenth

June 30: Journal article submission deadline for 2025 C-cert reading consideration

July 1: C-cert administration fee early payment discount deadline

July 4: UCNS office closed for Independence Day

July 31: Fellowship accreditation application deadline for fall application review

August 1: Deadline for Neuroimaging certification exam applications.

August 15: Extended deadline for Neuroimaging certification exam applications ($500 fee applies)

December 31: Deadline for completion of all 2024 UCNS C-cert activities
