Cup Tower Challenge

Last Tuesday, our Project Achievement students took on the challenge of who could build the tallest tower using foam cups and paper! This STEAM activity put our students critical thinking and fine motor skills to the test while they carefully tried to stack the most cups!

Cooking With CALC

Mexican Chicken Soup was on the menu for last week's session of Cooking with CALC! Our clients were excited by how easy it was to make this delicious recipe and thought the spices like cumin, and chili powder brought this healthy recipe to life!

During the lesson, our Nutrition Educator discussed how clients can shop for healthy meals within a set budget by practicing comparison shopping and learning to read the nutrition labels and unit prices!

As we approach Mother's Day, UCFS-CALC is celebrating moms who inspire their families with their kindness and love.

We had the chance to sit down with Gracie, Heba's Kareem's eldest daughter, and a dedicated volunteer who supports our Project Achievement program!

Heba is a loving wife, mother of three, and a co-founder of Black Tie Event Decor, a party rental supply company. Gracie admires her mother's supportiveness and faithfulness. Gracie says, "For as long as I can remember, my mom has always encouraged me and motivated me to be the best I can be." Heba's strong faith has also had a beautiful impact on her family's life. "My mom is very faithful and always has been. We grew up within the church and were raised in a home centered around God," says Gracie.

One thing that Gracie's mother has instilled in her is to treat everyone with respect and kindness. She mentions, "You never know what someone is going through, and my mom always set the example to be compassionate towards everyone. She radiates so much positivity and she spreads happiness wherever she goes. I’m very blessed to call her mom and be her daughter."

The Chaldean American Student Association (CASA) at Oakland University raised $9,000 to support UCFS-CALC initiatives during their annual CASABLANCA Gala on March 22nd. We're thankful to everyone who attended, sponsored, and supported the event. Your generosity has truly made a difference in our community.

We are extremely proud to congratulate our very own Executive Board Member, Yara Shadda, for being appointed to The Michigan Immigrant and Refugee Council (MIARC)!

The Mission of MIARC is to act in an advisory capacity to the Governor, OGM Executive Director, and State Refugee Coordinator on policy matters impacting Michigan’s immigrant and refugee communities. We are confident that Yara will be a strong addition to MIARC.

UCFS-CALC is seeking volunteer tutors and reading specialists for our Project Achievement afterschool tutoring program. Help children improve their reading skills, academic performance, and their future!

Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Make a donation to a program of your choice or a general donation to be used where it's needed most. Our community's trust in us and our mission make it possible for UCFS-CALC being able to continue to serve our neighbors in need with dignity and hope.

While we do accept gently used items in our Sharehouse, we provide our Clients with brand-new items as well. We do this for many reasons, such as the longevity of the item or for hygiene purposes, but most importantly, because our Clients deserve a dignified experience.
