Project Achievement

Comes to a Close

Project Achievement came to a close last Tuesday, and we are proud to announce that every student in the program passed their end-of-year assessment with significant improvement in their reading and writing skills! In celebration of their outstanding achievements, students enjoyed their last day with Pizza Party.

In addition to enhancing their literacy skills, the children also strengthened their social skills through collaborating with other students on various projects and activities throughout the year.

Cooking With CALC

Last Wednesday, our Nutrition Educator taught our clients how to make Broccoli Salad in our Cooking with CALC Program! The recipe featured ingredients that our clients likely have readily available, such as broccoli, Greek yogurt, mayo, and peanuts.

During the lesson, our Nutrition Educator taught our clients how to create well-balanced meals for their families by teaching them how to portion proteins, carbs, fruits, and veggies. They also understood the importance of making small impactful changes to their eating habits to promote healthier diets.

WBI Focus Group

Thank you to all of the women that came out to WBI's Focus Group at Princess Mediterranean last Tuesday! During the focus group, the women discussed potential ways that WBI could flourish and best serve our community as we look forward to relaunching it in the near future.

June is Immigrant Heritage Month in Michigan! We are celebrating the refugee community all month long by uplifting their voices and sharing their stories of courage and resilience. The challenges and losses they face are immense and we are so grateful to be a small part of their journey as they work to rebuild their lives.

Nahla and her four sisters fled Iraq three days after receiving violent threats from terrorists, leaving everything behind and seeking refuge in Jordan. Tragically, their eldest sister passed away from a heart attack at the age of 45 within the first 10 minutes of their journey due to the overwhelming stress of their sudden departure and the persecution they faced.

Volunteers Needed for

World Refugee Day Celebration!

In celebration of World Refugee Day, each year, UCFS-CALC brings together hundreds of clients to enjoy traditional music and dancing, food, and activities for the whole family!

We need volunteers to help with monitoring activities, serving food, clean up, and more. Details are as follows:

Location: Brinston Park

Time: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Volunteers Needed for

Spruce Up!

We need your assistance in cleaning out the back area to create an oasis for CALC clients. Bring your outdoor gloves, rakes, shovels and wood saws to assist!

Dress warm and comfy, and show up ready to work! We'll have you fill out a short form when you get here, and that's it!

While we do accept gently used items in our Sharehouse, we provide our Clients with brand-new items as well. We do this for many reasons, such as the longevity of the item or for hygiene purposes, but most importantly, because our Clients deserve a dignified experience.
